Electrical Engineer - Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer with hands-on expertise in BESS system design—specifically with Tesla Megapack systems. The ideal candidate will design, model, and oversee the electrical integration of Megapack systems within solar and grid-connected infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop BESS electrical systems, including one-line diagrams, control schematics, protection coordination, and grounding plans
• Lead the integration of Tesla Megapack 2XL units with existing solar and utility infrastructure.
• Engineer microgrid-capable BESS systems that automatically transition to island mode during grid outages, maintaining facility operations.
• Review Tesla-provided design documentation and coordinate technical submittals and approvals with clients and utilities.
• Conduct load flow, fault, and arc-flash studies using tools such as ETAP or SKM.
• Collaborate with the project management, mechanical, and field teams to ensure seamless project execution.
• Support permitting and interconnection applications, ensuring designs comply with IEEE, NEC, and utility standards.
• Provide technical oversight during construction, commissioning, and testing phases.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• 5+ years of experience in power systems design; 2+ years focused on BESS or renewable energy integration.
• Proven experience with Tesla Megapack (2 or 2XL) system design and deployment.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, ETAP/SKM, and PVsyst (preferred).
• Strong understanding of utility interconnection requirements and energy storage control systems (EMS/SCADA).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain within one year.
