Role Purpose Statement
The Transportation Operations Supervisor plays a critical role in leading the ground transportation team that supports airline catering services. This position is responsible for managing the daily execution of aircraft loading/unloading operations, ensuring on-time delivery performance, regulatory compliance, and high service standards. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, inspires frontline teams, and drives continuous improvement in safety, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
This position is based in the heart of Des Plaines at 200 E Touhy Ave, Des Plaines, IL 60018.
Main Accountabilities
Supervisor Responsibility
- Lead, schedule, and supervise transportation staff to meet operational and safety goals
- Monitor fleet operations to ensure on-time, accurate, and secure deliveries to aircraft
- Enforce DOT, OSHA, and company safety regulations at all times
- Coordinate with operations, warehouse, and airline partners to resolve service issues quickly
- Maintain accurate records of routes, schedules, and driver performance
- Conduct training, coaching, and performance evaluations for team members
- Ensure proper maintenance and cleanliness of vehicles and equipment
- Respond to operational challenges and implement solutions to prevent service disruption
- Leadership
- Guide, motivate and develop staff within the Human Resources policies
- Make the company's values and management principles live in the department(s)
- Manage productivity hours and costs in the area of responsibility; initiate and steer corrective actions in case of deviations
- Participate and support company sponsored initiatives such as Quality, HACCP, Lean Manufacturing, Employee Safety and Production systems
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent knowledge required
- In addition, one to three years of related work experience required
- Problem solving and leadership skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to develop and lead others to obtain desired results & achieve productivity goals
- Working knowledge of OSHA, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), FDA, USDA and EPA regulations
- Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills required along with the ability to multi-task
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows-based computer applications
