Description:
The Sea Freight Manager USA is responsible for the efficient planning, direction, and coordination of all activities involved in the movement of international ocean freight and ocean procurement at a strategic level.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the overall profitability of ocean freight in the USA.
- Monitors and ensures excellent customer service by obtaining and communicating customer expectations and making operational changes in line with best customer service practices.
- Provides general daily supervision and guidance to the Ocean Freight Department staff.
- Motivate all sales and operational staff through excellent leadership practices.
- Coordinates with and acts as liaison between all sales and operational staff.
- Works closely with product management & pricing to ensure nationwide consistency with market and vendor management.
- Processes design and enforcement of operational levels across all USA locations.
- Cooperates closely with global and regional product management.
- Manages relationships with steamship lines.
- Makes sales presentations to prospective and existing customers.
- Provides market updates to all management personnel.
- Performs other duties as required and assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent related work experience.
- A minimum of 10 years in the ocean freight industry is required.
- Excellent relationships with steamship lines is a must.
- Working knowledge of related operations programs.
- Proven experience in motivating teams, along with the ability to build strong rapport, establish trust and credibility through a consultative approach.
- Professional demeanor, including excellent written & verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Windows programs, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- No heavy lifting is expected; although exertion of up to 25 pounds of force may be required on occasion.
- Manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment, such as computers, copiers, fax machines, etc.
- Sitting for extended periods of time is common.
- Hearing and vision within average range to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents.
- This position is performed in a traditional office setting.
- The ability to travel is required.
