As a Field Controls Engineer with Crown Mechanical Solutions, you’ll be a key player in keeping our customers’ operations moving. You’ll travel to sites, diagnose and repair controls and automation systems, perform startups and upgrades, and support installations. This is a field-based position — not behind a desk — with regular travel and participation in on-call rotations. The role is based in the Chicago area, with significant travel.

Job Requirements

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 2+ years of experience in controls, automation, or electrical service roles
• Hands-on experience with PLC systems, VFDs, sensors, and industrial wiring
• Experience with Rockwell software is preferred
• Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical and control systems
• Familiarity with conveyor, dock, or material handling systems
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and control diagrams
• Must have dependable transportation and a clean driving record
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds on a regular basis
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
• Willingness to travel and participate in on-call rotation
• Up to 75% travel during peak periods
• Must pass standard background and drug screening
• Assist with training new and developing team members on electrical and programming skills

Work Responsibilities

• Install, troubleshoot, and repair automation and control systems for conveyors, docks, and material handling equipment
• Perform PLC-based system diagnostics, updates, and component replacements
• Commission and support new automation installs and control panels
• Maintain detailed service reports and communicate effectively with customers and teammates
• Collaborate with mechanical technicians and leadership to ensure seamless project execution
• Stay current on industry and technology trends; pursue ongoing technical training
• Identify opportunities for improvement or expansion within customer sites
• Provide on-call electrical troubleshooting support for team members
• Assist in Training and developing

• Salary: $100,000–$125,000 per year, depending on experience
