Casualty Claims Insurance Director

Location: Mount Prospect, IL (Hybrid)

Salary: $140,000 - $180,000 annually (based on experience) plus annual bonus potential

American Freedom Insurance Company (AFIC) , a growing, A+ (Superior) rated non-standard automobile insurer, is seeking an experienced and strategic Casualty Insurance Operations Director to lead and manage our casualty claims operations. The Casualty Insurance Operations Director will oversee claims handling, team development, process improvement, and risk mitigation, ensuring operational excellence from our Mount Prospect headquarters. This leadership role is based in-office, with a hybrid schedule available to foster collaboration with executive and operational teams.

As AFIC continues to expand, we are looking for a proven casualty operations leader who thrives in a collaborative environment and has extensive experience managing auto casualty claims within a high-volume, fast-paced setting.

Your Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage the end-to-end casualty and legal claims process, ensuring timely, accurate, and cost-effective claim resolutions.
• Oversee the administration of claims activities for casualty team to include meeting expected service levels and maintain appropriate records/documentation.
• Lead, mentor, and develop adjusters and support staff, driving a culture of accountability and performance.
• Implement best practices, employee and workflow metrics, and process improvements to optimize claims handling and reduce loss exposure.
• Apply knowledge of laws, judicial decisions, regulations, judges, venues, defense costs, etc. in the cost-effective settlement of losses.
• Assign and manage outside legal counsel to effectively defend the company in local jurisdictions.
• Monitor, oversee and audit to ensure casualty and legal claims are handled in compliance with state insurance regulations and internal company policies.
• Monitor high-severity claims to mitigate risk and manage litigation effectively.
• Prepare and deliver regular reports on claims metrics, trends, concerning claims and operational performance to senior management.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Claims, Underwriting, IT, Marketing, Product, etc. to support company objectives.
• Evaluate current operations, staff, and design a forward-looking structure that scales with AFIC’s continued growth.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, training and development in the casualty department.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Risk Management, Insurance, or related field. Advanced degree a plus.
• Prior auto insurance experience required and non-standard auto insurance familiarity preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive experience in casualty claims management, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school is a plus.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to analyze complex claims issues, identify solutions, and drive results.
• Familiarity with claims management systems and reporting tools.
