Medical Assistant Job Details

• Location: Chicago, IL 60612 (Illinois healthcare jobs)
• Setting: Hospital – Family Planning, Gynecology, and Pediatrics Departments
• Employment Type: Locum Tenens (Travel/Contract Medical Assistant)
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $920 - $940/week
• Start Date: October 6, 2025
• End Date: January 5, 2026
• Duration: 13 weeks
• Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
• Shift: 5x8-hour day shifts (40 hours/week guaranteed)
• Floating: Required within Family Planning, Gynecology, and Pediatrics; may float to other hospital units within 50 miles as needed
• Scrub Color: Any solid color
• Charting: Cerner EMR experience preferred
• Parking: $2/day at Juvenile Temporary Detention Center (JTDC) with shuttle service every 15 minutes

Medical Assistant Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of Medical Assistant experience preferred with an MA Associate's Degree or Diploma and MA Certification and BLS certification
• OR 5 years of Medical Assistant experience with MA Certification and BLS
• MA Certification accepted from: AAMA, AMT, NHA, ARMA, NCCT, or NRCMA
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
• Experience with both adult and pediatric patient populations in a clinical support role
• Active Illinois Medical Assistant license required upon submission
• COVID-19 and Flu vaccines required (medical/religious exemption for flu only)
• Must reside within 75 miles of the facility (local candidates only)
• Ability to float to different hospital units as needed

Medical Assistant Responsibilities

• Rooming patients and recording medical history, medications, and allergies
• Performing vital signs (blood pressure, respirations, temperature, pulse)
• Assisting with clinical procedures such as biopsies, pap smears, immunizations, and OB/GYN exams
• Collecting and labeling specimens (urine, blood glucose, etc.)
• Setting up aseptic/sterile procedure trays
• Scheduling patient appointments and conducting follow-up phone calls
• Stocking supplies and maintaining exam rooms for optimal patient care
• Insurance verification and accurate patient documentation in Cerner EMR
• Floating to Family Planning, Gynecology, and Pediatrics departments as needed
• Collaborating with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including Physical Therapy, Radiology, Pharmacy, and more
