Noise Analyst III
What We're Looking For
This position is based in Chicago, Illinois but will be working within our Great Lakes Division team based in Wisconsin.
Come join our Noise and Environmental Planning group. You’ll have an opportunity to work with an outstanding team on some of the largest, most complex, and exciting transportation and infrastructure projects throughout the country. As part of our team, you will perform all aspects of noise analyses for a range of project types and clients. You will be responsible for the design and technical aspects of noise projects and will have opportunities to contribute to task assignee duties and business development. The position is primarily focused on data collection, modeling and reporting for noise analyses in the transportation sector. Air quality experience is a plus, but not a requirement for this position.
Primary Focus Will Include:
Conducts transportation noise studies for highway and transit projects and formulates the results into concise, well-written documents.
Attends meetings with clients and responsible agencies and assists with preparation of noise analysis methods and results.
Participates as a subject matter contributor in public involvement activities including discussing noise analysis findings with the public and making presentations at public meetings.
Assists with federal, state and local regulatory agency coordination.
What You’ll Do:
Analyzes the design plan and identifies deliverables.
Compiles and analyzes data associated with multi-disciplines and proposes technical solutions. Collects raw data, organizes, researches, and applies recognized tools of analysis to provide comprehensive review of the data.
Prepares graphics, technical reports, fee proposals, and responses to Request for Proposals for planning projects.
Assists in the creation of project presentation materials, concepts, graphics, and reports to the client and community groups.
Coordinates and interfaces with other project team members during the course of a project.
Coordinates with clients on a regular basis to complete assigned tasks and to perform quality checks to ensure client requirements are met.
Responsible for significant portions of presentations and public facilitation. Conducts public meetings/hearings/community workshops and interfaces with client groups and community stakeholders.
May review budgets, invoicing, and billing.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need:
Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Environmental Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Engineering, or related field and 4 years of relevant experience, or
Master's Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Environmental Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Engineering, or related field and 3 years of relevant experience
What You’ll Bring:
Knows how to use FHWA Traffic Noise Model (TNM) without guidance from others.
Understands policies and procedures of the client processes (i.e., regulations, concept of final design, environmental procedure manual).
Functions as the Task Lead for simple projects with the ability to contribute to writing scopes and budgets with Project Manager oversight.
Gains an advanced understanding of environmental laws (i.e., NEPA, local, state and federal) and ensures legal compliance. Applies knowledge to more complex documents, provides recommendations to clients, and ensures permits are completed, with oversight from more experienced staff.
Contributes to scope of work, budget, and schedule as part of task expansion or new proposals with guidance from more experienced staff.
Prepares environmental review documents for moderately complex transportation projects. Functions as the Task Lead for environmental documents with oversight from more experienced staff.
What We Prefer:
4 years related experience
Bachelor’s degree in Acoustics, Planning, Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field
Experience in highway or transit noise analysis and modeling is required.
Experience in the use of FHWA and FTA noise modeling and related tools, including Traffic Noise Model (TNM), ArcGIS, MicroStation, and transit noise and vibration impact assessment.
Experience analyzing data to perform noise analyses.

The approximate pay range for Illinois is $79,863.05 - $119,794.58. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
