These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner, following the mission, values, and behaviors of Insight Hospital and Medical Center. Employees are further expected to provide a high quality of care, service, and kindness toward all patients, staff, physicians, volunteers, and guests.

The Mammography Technologist provides for and ensures optimal technical quality and accuracy of all mammographic examinations at the satellite facilities according to MQSA (Mammography Quality Standards Act) and department standards. Ensures that all patients, visitors, and staff members are treated in a professional and helpful manner. DESCRIPTION: Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensures proper identification of images and records all pertinent data as required to maintain an appropriate history of patients.
  • Operates equipment and performs examinations independently and with care.
  • Reports immediately any malfunctions, necessary adjustments, or repairs needed to the appropriate service area and ensures quality of equipment.
  • Ensures that timely service and special patient needs are maintained to ensure patient and physician satisfaction.
  • Reviews patients' histories in order to ensure optimal examinations specific to the doctor's orders and what the patient is currently experiencing.
  • Approaches each patient with sensitivity, empathy, and dignity while maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Fulfills mammography-specific education requirements as dictated by the FDA.
  • Keeps abreast of new and current trends in the field through professional affiliations and by attendance at seminars and conferences.
  • Ensures cross training of staff to maintain patient safety.
  • Coordinates efforts with schedules and supplies.
  • Completes all paperwork applicable to the examination, i.e. clinical information history, and any other pertinent data to provide useful information pertinent to the examination and its interpretation.
  • Maintains optimal performance of the mammography systems and low patient radiation exposure through daily, weekly, and monthly quality control procedures as mandated by MQSA (Mammography Quality Standards Act).
  • Performs phantom images on all mammography units.
  • Performs the compression test and visual checklist on mammography units.
  • Maintains the repeat analysis testing for the Breast Center.
  • Maintains the Breast Center in a clean and orderly manner, ensuring the availability of proper levels of supplies and that the equipment is properly handled and correctly functioning.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned, example: charges, check requests.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: Knowledge:
  • Completion of the Radiologic Technologist Program from an AMA (American Medical Association) approved school required.
  • Must have a certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists to include advanced certification in mammography licensure by the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety (IDNS) required.
Skills:
  • Must be able to deal effectively with patients, physicians, hospital personnel, and co-workers required.
  • Must be able to work under pressure at all times required.
Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate in a clear written and/or verbal manner required.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy in carrying out work duties required.
  • Excellent problem solving and inductive reasoning skills required.
