Medical Assistant Job Details

• Location: Chicago, IL 60612 (Illinois healthcare jobs)
• Setting: Hospital-based Surgical Specialty Clinic
• Assignment Type: Travel Medical Assistant (Locum Tenens)
• Duration: 13 weeks (October 6, 2025 – January 5, 2026)
• Schedule: Monday – Friday, 5x8-hour day shifts (9:00 AM – 5:30 PM)
• Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $920–$940 per week
• Scrubs: Any solid color
• Charting: Cerner EMR
• Parking: $2/day at JTDC with shuttle service every 15 minutes

Medical Assistant Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant (2+ years preferred; 5 years in lieu of degree)
• Associate's Degree or Diploma in Medical Assisting preferred
• Current Medical Assistant Certification (AAMA, AMT, NHA, ARMA, NCCT, or NRCMA)
• Current BLS certification required
• Experience with both adult and pediatric patients
• Bilingual candidates preferred
• Must reside within 75 miles of Chicago, IL (local candidates only)
• COVID-19 and Flu vaccines required (medical/religious flu exemptions allowed)
• Ability to float to other units/facilities within 50 miles as needed
• Active IL Medical Assistant license required upon submission

Medical Assistant Responsibilities

• Provide clinical support in General Surgery, Bariatric, Urology, Colectomy, and Thoracic clinics
• Room patients, record medical history, medications, and allergies
• Obtain and document vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respirations)
• Perform blood glucose testing, immunizations, nebulizer treatments, suture removal, and vision testing
• Administer TB tests and assist with urine collection (UA/Clean Catch)
• Handle follow-up phone calls, pharmacy communications, and patient refill requests
• Label specimens and complete authorization forms as needed
• Float to other units or facilities within scope to meet patient care needs
• Maintain accurate documentation using Cerner EMR
