ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Warehouse Duties:

  • Drives forklift to prep customer orders.
  • Receives product from vendors, wraps and bands pallets.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties, etc.
  • Helps load and unload trailers as needed.

Driving Duties:

  • Performs all required safety checks (i.e. pre/post trip) including inspections of straight/box truck according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations; inspects straight/box truck to insure they meet company safety standards and takes appropriate action as needed. Immediately reports all safety issues and/or repairs required.
  • Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies. Immediately reports any and all safety hazards.
  • Inspects cargo area for properly loaded and secured freight. Performs count check of items and checks BOL (Bill of Lading) or customer invoices of products that have been loaded. Checks and accurately and legibly completes all required paperwork associated with freight.
  • Drives straight/box truck to deliver NOW Foods and other health/natural food products, and company correspondence to Fruitful Yield retail stores and customers' places of business. Drives to and delivers loads according to predetermined route delivery schedule. Performs damage control checks on items, scanning and contacting supervisor about damage according to company policy.
  • Ensures that cab, cargo area and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured at all times.
  • Maintains driver log.
  • Collects payment from customers via check or money order and records transactions on customer receipt.
  • Records delivery information. Issues or obtains customer signature on receipt for pickup or delivery. Loads customer returns on to straight/box truck and secures freight and doors with company provided padlock.
  • Listens to and resolves service complaints.
  • Unloads truck and takes product into store or customer business.
  • Loads and unloads damaged goods or customer returns and bring to a warehouse to complete necessary paperwork. Unloads all equipment, materials and removes trash from straight/box truck as required.
  • Loads truck.
  • Picks up raw materials and supplies from vendors and transports to main warehouse or distribution center.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties in straight/box truck, loading dock area and keeps straight/box truck clear and clean as required.
  • Complies with safety and GMP requirements.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

One to three years related experience.

PERFORMANCE ABILITY

Drives a straight/box truck on local routes in the Chicagoland area to pick-up, deliver and at times unload various food grade products safely in accordance with all company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is required, including ability to accept responsibility for their own safety, as well as the safety of others. Follows all federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines. Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job. CDL Class B license with Air Brake Endorsement required. Demonstrated ability to consistently meet quality, safety and efficiency goals. Excellent problem solving skills. Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to effectively relate to team members and customers. Excellent attention to detail skills; and demonstrated high quality of work. Strong time management skills; ability to prioritize and calmly handle multiple tasks simultaneously to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment; demonstrate a strong sense of urgency; and flexibility to change tasks frequently as business needs require. LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with customers and coworkers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Class B Driver's License (CDL) with Air Brake Endorsement required.
  • Previous driving experience with good safety and driving record; knowledge of Chicago and suburban streets and locations; and ability to read, interpret and follow highway traffic signs, signals and GPS required..
  • Three (3) years DMV/MVR record with no moving violations or accidents.
  • Ability to operate and earn certifications in various PIT (Powered Industrial Trucks), such as Dock Stocker, Sit down and Reach trucks.
  • Basic computer skills required; ability to navigate and to use GPS, electronic log devices (ELDs or elogs) to record driver and vehicle activity such as hours of service (HOS) and records of duty status (RODS).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including extended hours, off shifts and/or weekends to support the business.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently regularly required to see, talk and hear; stand, walk, and/or sit; ascend and descend stairs; stoop, kneel, crouch to reach with hands and arms; to use hands to handle or grasp controls; use feet to depress foot controls; and use a computer. The employee is occasionally required to access product on floor or low shelves; and to operate a hand truck or forklift with a 24 inch step. Employee is frequently required to lift, twist, turn, and may climb. The employee is frequently required to sit and climb into straight/box truck or balance. While driving specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

The associate must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle and safely and frequently enter/exit the vehicle as well as the rear cargo area. Comfortable driving and working in inclement weather conditions with frequent stops (10+ per shift) required.

The employee must regularly lift, move (in some cases drag items), slide, raise and/or place:

  • Pallets weighing up to 55 lbs. from floor onto one side, move up to 10 feet and return to original position.
  • Up to 34 lb. box from shoulder level to 75 inches and then perform transfer of 15 lb. stacking from 6 inches to 60 inches.
  • Up to 75 lbs. from 5 inches off the ground up to 46 inches high and return to original position.
  • Hold and squeeze to 50 lbs. and then pull one end onto a 32-36 inch table and wrap around a box and then unwrap.

The employee must tolerate working in different weather conditions and able to adapt to rapid environmental changes. Seated for extended periods of time driving established routes daily making frequent stops and load and unload trucks as needed. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
