Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and methodical Quality Lab Technician to support our food manufacturing operations through accurate and timely analytical testing. This position plays a critical role in maintaining product quality and compliance by performing routine compositional analyses such as fat, salt, and moisture determination. The technician will collaborate closely with Production and Quality teams and report directly to the Quality Lab Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily laboratory testing of in-process materials, finished products, and raw materials using established methods, including:
- Fat content (Soxhlet extraction or Mojonnier method)
- Salt content via silver nitrate (AgNO3) titration
- Moisture content using oven-drying or rapid analyzers
- Document and review analytical results; identify out-of-specification results and notify appropriate personnel.
- Calibrate, operate, and maintain laboratory instruments and testing equipment according to SOPs.
- Support root cause investigations for non-conforming results or customer complaints.
- Maintain lab inventory of reagents, glassware, and consumables.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of lab areas and reusable supplies.
- Adhere to food safety and quality standards (HACCP, GMPs, SQF/BRC).
- Assist with proficiency testing, method validations, and inter-lab comparisons.
- Participate in internal and external audits as needed.
- Identify and support opportunities for process improvement.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and lab data management systems
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Team-oriented with a commitment to continuous improvement and food safety
- Self-starter mindset with curiosity and collaborative problem-solving approach
Education & Experience
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related field
- 1–2 years of relevant laboratory experience (preferably in food manufacturing)
- Familiarity with gravimetric, volumetric, and titrimetric techniques
- Experience with AgNO3 titration for salt analysis
- Knowledge of moisture and fat analysis methods (oven-drying, Soxhlet, etc.)
- Experience in a GFSI-certified facility (SQF, BRC, or FSSC 22000)
Food Safety Responsibilities
- Attend all company food safety training sessions (GMP, HACCP, SQF, Allergen, etc.)
- Participate in GMP walks and food safety initiatives
- Enforce and uphold all company food safety policies
Working Conditions
- Primarily lab-based role within a food production environment
- Exposure to food allergens, varying temperatures, and occasional wet/slippery conditions
- PPE required per company policy
- Temperature range: 55–80°ree;F
Physical Requirements
- Operate standard lab and office equipment
- Reach, bend, and lift up to 25 lbs
