Boiler & Refrigeration Systems Operating Engineer
Boiler & Refrigeration Systems Operating Engineer
A day in your life here
You arrive on site and make a quick sweep of the powerhouse and utilities rooms—boilers humming, ammonia and Freon chillers on spec, compressed air steady, glycol loops circulating, AHUs balanced, hot oil stable, fire protection and wastewater systems ready. You verify everything is operating safely, then dive into the morning’s preventive maintenance and scheduled inspections.
As the day unfolds, you fine‑tune setpoints and controls through the building automation system (pneumatic and electronic), log spare parts usage, and keep a tight eye on inventory for gaskets, chemicals, pumps, and other critical spares. You document every inspection and immediately escalate any deviation to management. Between calls, you track service requests, close out PMs, and carve out time for training to keep your Stationary Engineer license current and your knowledge sharp on new technologies.

- Ensure safe operation of all stationary equipment across boilers, ammonia/Freon chillers, air compressors, glycol and AHU cooling systems, hot oil systems, fire protection, air handling, and wastewater.
- Complete inspections, document findings, and report any variances to management without delay.

- Adjust system settings and controls for safe, efficient performance.
- Maintain accurate records of parts and consumables inventories (gaskets, chemicals, pumps, etc.).
- Pursue ongoing training to maintain required licenses and stay current with evolving technology.
