Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Interpreter (Mandarin/English) with an engineering or technical construction background to support a large-scale industrial commissioning project. This role serves as the primary liaison between Mandarin-speaking OEM representatives and English-speaking construction, commissioning, and client teams, ensuring accurate communication of technical information, project updates, and field issues.
Job Description
- Provide accurate verbal and written interpretation between Mandarin-speaking OEM personnel and English-speaking project stakeholders
- Attend construction, commissioning, owner/client, and coordination meetings, as well as field walk-downs, to facilitate clear technical communication
- Translate engineering discussions, technical procedures, commissioning plans, and project documentation in real time
- Read, interpret, and communicate information from engineering drawings, including P&IDs, electrical single-line diagrams, panel schedules, control schematics, and mechanical and electrical drawings
- Support construction, startup, testing, commissioning, and system turnover activities by ensuring accurate communication of technical requirements and field issues
- Assist with troubleshooting discussions involving electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, and control systems
- Coordinate communication regarding RFIs, punch list items, commissioning deficiencies, corrective actions, and field changes
- Translate technical documents, operating procedures, commissioning reports, safety documentation, and engineering correspondence
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with project management, engineers, superintendents, contractors, OEM representatives, and client personnel
- Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and technical accuracy in all communications
Skills Required
- Fluent in Mandarin Chinese and English (spoken and written)
- Strong understanding of industrial construction, manufacturing, power, mission-critical, or commissioning environments
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical single-line diagrams, panel schedules, control schematics, and technical specifications
- Familiarity with construction sequencing, equipment installation, commissioning, startup, and system turnover processes
- Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with multicultural teams
- Comfortable working on active construction sites while following site safety requirements
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering documentation platforms
- Experience supporting OEM equipment installation, commissioning, or startup activities preferred
- Background in electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, controls, automation, or industrial engineering preferred
- Experience serving as a technical liaison between international engineering teams and North American contractors preferred
- Familiarity with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), integrated systems testing, and commissioning documentation preferred
- Ability to work in industrial and active construction environments
- Adhere to all site safety policies and procedures
- Willingness to support commissioning, startup, and field activities as required
Education/Training/Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline preferred; equivalent field experience will also be considered
Pay Rate/Salary
- $50.00/hr - $75.00/hr. Compensation will be offered within this posted range based on experience, skills, and market factors
