Fabrication Estimator Position Overview

Role SummaryThe Fabrication Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for custom fabrication projects ranging from small-scale components to large industrial installations. You will serve as a critical link between our sales team, engineering department, production floor, and clients, ensuring that all projects are properly scoped, accurately priced, and positioned for successful execution. This position requires a detail-oriented professional who can balance technical expertise with business acumen to deliver estimates that win projects while maintaining healthy profit margins.
Key ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities
- Evaluate request-for-quote (RFQ) documentation received from the sales team to determine project scope and technical requirements.
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for fabricated assemblies, including material, labor, and production expenses.
- Develop comprehensive quotation packages and proposal documentation to support the sales engineering team.
- Generate and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) along with manufacturing routings for production.
- Produce conceptual layouts, engineering drawings, and fabrication-ready designs that emphasize quality, efficiency, and cost control.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing personnel to optimize designs for efficient production and ease of fabrication.
- Source components and outside services by obtaining vendor pricing and issuing purchase orders as needed.
- Facilitate project kickoff meetings with engineering, sales, purchasing, and manufacturing teams to review project requirements, clarify expectations, and ensure alignment on larger opportunities.
- Serve as the primary engineering contact between customers, sales personnel, and manufacturing by communicating technical information and resolving design-related questions.
- Verify material requirements and review bills of materials for accuracy before production begins, particularly on large or complex projects.
- Coordinate multiple quotations and engineering assignments while maintaining project schedules and priorities.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support departmental objectives.
Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent industry experience may be considered in place of formal education.
- Minimum of three to five years of relevant engineering or manufacturing experience.
- Familiarity with estimating methods, manufacturing costs, and job costing principles.
- Working knowledge of 3D CAD software, including AutoCAD.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively across departments.
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities, including the ability to evaluate financial data and develop accurate cost projections.
- Experience within sanitary process systems, stainless-steel fabrication, or hygienic process piping environments is considered a strong advantage.
