Job Description:
Floriole’s General Manager is responsible for guiding the organization toward its mission, vision, and goals. The GM maintains intimate operational knowledge of the cafe, collaborating closely with all team members, especially the leadership team, to ensure successful execution. A successful GM embodies Floriole's mission and guiding principles, inspiring the team and implementing corrective actions. The role directly oversees all daily operations including: staffing (hiring, firing, onboarding, offboarding), scheduling, training, team satisfaction and wellbeing, food safety and cleanliness, customer experience, events, inventory, quality control, leadership team performance, and maintenance. In addition, the General Manager works closely with Owner-Chef Sandra Holl on innovative strategy and ideas to ensure Floriole’s continued success and a fresh, dynamic, and healthy workplace.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Mission & Strategy: Partner with Sandra to translate Floriole's mission and guiding principles into tangible team goals, initiatives, and training, consistently upholding these principles. Upholds Floriole's mission statement and guiding principles in an exemplary manner.
- Operations: Maintain intimate knowledge of the cafe's workings and the ability to work on any station, ensuring a holistic understanding of the larger operation.
- Human Resources & Staffing:
- Oversee the complete employee lifecycle, including hiring, firing, onboarding, and offboarding for all staff.
- Manage recruitment processes: maintain job descriptions, post listings, review candidates, conduct interviews, check references, and prepare job offers.
- Coordinate and execute all staff performance reviews (annual reviews, 30- and 60-day check-ins) and benefits enrollment.
- Track and oversee all disciplinary actions and conduct exit interviews.
- Scheduling & Payroll: Manage scheduling and payroll, including reviewing, approving, and publishing schedules a minimum of two weeks in advance. Handle time-off requests, correct time punches, monitor overtime, and maintain accurate employee scheduling data.
- Training & Systems: Oversee all team member training, ensuring adequacy and updating systems and documentation. Facilitate excellent training with the leadership team. Develop, workshop, and update bakery-wide systems and tools for team adherence.
- Financial & Inventory Management:
- Work with Sandra to digest and transmit financial information to the team, communicating sales goals and analyzing P&Ls to ensure the café meets or exceeds financial goals.
- Oversee all inventory ordering, proper storage, and quality control to maintain a high product standard.
- Customer Experience & Website: Oversee and ensure excellent customer experience. Track and respond to customer feedback, facilitate the “make it right” policy, and manage the cafe email. Oversee the Floriole website's functionality, aesthetics, and holiday pre-orders.
- Team Satisfaction & Culture: Oversee team satisfaction, engagement, wellbeing, and morale, including conducting and reporting on engagement surveys.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure exemplary food safety and cleanliness, including training Managers on health inspection preparation, conducting mock inspections, and ensuring all team members have necessary and up-to-date certifications.
- Leadership & Development: Oversee leadership team performance by conducting weekly check-ins and yearly performance reviews to set goals and create development plans.
- Menu & Events: Collaborate with the Head Baker to develop seasonal menus and recipes. Oversee the coordination and execution of all holidays and events.
- Support & Maintenance: Act as a flexible helping hand, filling in wherever necessary. Schedule and solve maintenance-related issues as they arise.
- Team meetings & Internal Communications: Lead and actively participate in team meetings and events, soliciting active participation from the team.
Job Details:
- Full-Time Position
- Weekends and Holidays are a must.
- Shifts are Wednesday - Sunday between 7am - 4pm (subject to change)
- Salaried. Varies based on experience.
- Eligible for health insurance after 60 days (50% employer contribution).
- Starts at 80 hours combined sick and PTO accrued annually

- Experience using a Point of Sales system. Square preferred.
- IL Food Handler Certificate required (Floriole will provide if necessary).
- Servsafe Manager City of Chicago Certificate required (Floriole will provide if necessary).
- Servsafe Allergen Certificate required (Floriole will provide if necessary).
