Multi‑Site Chemical Terminals Operations & Capital Projects Manager

You wake up in the Midwest and your day spans four locations: Chicago, IL; Cleveland, OH; Niagara Falls, Canada; and the Whiting, IN transfer facility. Over coffee, you scan overnight KPIsthroughput, asset reliability, and EHS dashboards. A quick call confirms railcar unloading is on plan in Cleveland while maintenance in Chicago is preparing for a critical outage. By mid-morning, youre aligning CAPEX priorities with plant engineering and confirming RC14001 tasks are closed in the IMS. After lunch, youre prepping teams for an upcoming ISO 9001 audit, reviewing procedures that affect truck loading, and signing off on spend. You end the day partnering with Sales and Marketing to ensure production and shipping plans mirror business demand.

Role overview

As the Terminals & Projects leader for Chemtrades Midwest network, youll own safe operations, environmental compliance, product quality, performance targets, and budgets across three terminals and one transfer facility. Youll direct day-to-day activities (railcar unloading, truck loading, maintenance), manage multi-site CAPEX in Chicago, Cleveland, and Niagara, and collaborate closely with Logistics, Commercial, and EHS to meet customer and regulatory expectations.

Where youll be based

Home-based in the Midwest (Chicago, IL; Northern Ohio; or Northern Indiana) with travel up to 50% to the other facilities.

What youll lead

• Operations, maintenance, and CAPEX 35% Inspire and direct facility teams; approve spend; update procedures; train staff; oversee nonstandard maintenance; write, coordinate, and manage capital projects; drive continuous improvement for cost and value.
• EHS leadership 20% Serve as site management representative for RC14001; ensure timely incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions; close IMS action items on schedule.
• Quality and compliance 15% Represent sites during regulatory, customer, and ISO 9001 audits; resource quality investigations and corrective actions.
• Business alignment 10% Partner with Sales/Marketing; contribute to planning meetings; supply resources to keep a living production and shipping plan synchronized with commercial plans; interface with customers as needed.
• Performance reporting 10% Compile and present periodic reports covering production, spend, reliability, EHS, and CAPEX.
• Forward planning 10% Develop annual production plans; maintenance outage plans; capital and periodic spending plans.

What you bring

• Background in chemical or heavy industrial manufacturing (refining, pulp & paper, steel, etc.).
• 5+ years in a related management role; union environment experience preferred.
• Proven leadership with strong problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Self-starter who operates independently and takes initiative.
• Located near one of the facilities; able to travel approximately 50%.
