Water / Wastewater Engineer – Municipal Infrastructure

Location: Frankfurt, Illinois (Hybrid Work Schedule)
Compensation: $95,000 – $135,000 Base Salary (DOE)
Employment Type: Full-Time

WhiteHat Talent Solutions is partnering with a civil engineering firm in the southwest Chicago suburbs that's looking to add a Water/Wastewater Engineer to support its growing municipal infrastructure practice. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys designing real infrastructure systems and wants to take ownership of meaningful municipal projects. You’ll work on water distribution, sanitary sewer, pump stations, and treatment-related systems while collaborating closely with experienced project managers and municipal clients.

The firm maintains long-standing relationships with municipalities across Illinois, providing a consistent pipeline of infrastructure work.

What You’ll Work On

Projects typically include:

• Water distribution and transmission mains

• Sanitary sewer systems and force mains

• Pump stations and lift stations

• Water and wastewater treatment-related infrastructure

• Storage systems and distribution improvements

• Municipal capital improvement programs

You’ll work closely with project managers and municipal clients while contributing to design development, technical documentation, and project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare engineering designs, plans, and specifications for municipal water and wastewater projects

• Perform hydraulic calculations and system layout design

• Develop cost estimates and supporting technical documentation

• Coordinate with municipalities, permitting agencies, and internal project teams

• Support project managers with technical deliverables and project execution

• Assist with project planning and engineering decision-making

• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and design staff

What We’re Looking For

• 6+ years of experience in water / wastewater engineering

• Experience supporting municipal infrastructure projects

• Strong understanding of water distribution and sanitary sewer design

• Experience preparing engineering plans, specifications, and calculations

• Familiarity with modeling tools such as:

  • WaterCAD

  • SewerCAD

  • InfoWater

  • Similar hydraulic modeling software

• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, but not required for strong candidates with relevant experience
