Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Executive Director of the new Center for Faculty Development, the Director of Scholarship and Career Advancement provides leadership for faculty support for research, scholarship, mentoring, leadership, and career advancement; shapes the vision, sets goals, designs leading-edge programs, and launches initiatives that align with the overarching commitment of Loyola to enhance the quality of scholarship and career success so that all faculty can thrive.
  • This is a high-level leadership position within the Center that has broad-reaching impact on individual faculty members and university culture. The Director is a catalyst for innovation and impact in 1) High-quality, evidence-based learning opportunities for instructors through asynchronous resources, workshops, and programs; 2) University-wide collaboration with partners in the faculty development ecosystem; 3) Center leadership, including overseeing the work of graduate student interns and assistants.
  • More specifically, the Director of Scholarship and Career Advancement creates, organizes, and coordinates the delivery of a multi-modal, developmentally sequenced array of evidence-based education and training programs to enhance a) our faculty effectiveness in producing high-impact, funded research and scholarly works and b) our faculty effectiveness in developing career/professional skills beyond teaching and research. Responsibilities include helping to develop and execute the Center’s strategic framework and the University’s strategic plan as they pertain to faculty research, scholarship, mentoring, and career development.

Minimum Education And/or Work Experience

  • A Doctoral degree with an emphasis in higher education, instructional design, human relations, or related field is required.
  • At least five years of progressive related experience.

Qualifications

  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team, with strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to implement strategic plans that align with organizational goals. A history of building and maintaining internal partnerships with faculty and staff across the institution. Experience managing large-scale projects from conception to completion. At least 5 years progressive experience with faculty professional development.
  • Organizational Skills Must have the ability to quickly adapt to changes and new ideas. Supports organization’s mission and values the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm. Develops strategies to achieve strategic goals. Adapts strategy to changing conditions. Includes appropriate people in decision-making process. Strong administrative and organizational skills.

Ability to write reports, correspondence, and faculty professional development. Excellent faculty-facing skills, especially speaking and presenting. The ability to respond to questions appropriately and promptly from a variety of stakeholders. Ability to solicit faculty feedback on how to improve programming.
  • Reasoning Ability Synthesize complex information. Gather and analyze information skillfully. Generate creative solutions; Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner. Develop alternative solutions. Works well in both group and individual problem-solving situations. Looks for ways to improve and promote quality.
