Job Description & Responsibilities
This position requires but is not limited to: attention to detail, the ability to prioritize & organize time sensitive matters, be able to multitask, have an understanding of the Military and their branches, stay in continuous contact with Veterans, have basic knowledge of basic office computer programs.

Job Purpose
- To provide resources, client management, and aid to our nation’s military heroes and their family
- Represent the Boone County VAC as the Front Desk Office Secretary performing all duties professionally. Abide by all rules, regulations, and guidelines for any government employee.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Interview and screen Veterans and their families as required for office appointments
- Communicate with City, County, Federal, and Local Organizations in a positive manner.
- Track and complete all reports required for Board Meetings.
- Ensure monthly Veterans enrolled in VACBC ride program are scheduled.
- Submit monthly VAC operations reports and forward them to the County Office Manager, once signed/reviewed by Superintendent.
- Deposits all donations immediately to Bank in appropriated VAC accounts. Process all refunds and county utilities reimbursements in a timely manner.
- Review and comply with orders and regulations as stated in the Handbook Guide of Services Provided Rules and Eligibility Standard Veteran Assistance Commission of Boone County.
- Complete other assigned duties such as other assignments as required such as helping with VACBC food pantry program.
Qualifications
- Be a military veteran, knowledgeable of military branches, military job duties, and have an understanding of the military duties that both service member and family member experience during both deployed, non-deployed, as well as any other duties military members experience.
- Have the ability to organize, prioritize and track workloads independently with little supervision.
- Pay attention to detail at the same time as multitasking multiple clients and their individual deadlines.
- Ability to read, interpret, comprehend and utilize legal cases, federal regulations, medical research in a useful manner to prepare written statements for veterans.
- Friendly and approachable makes clients feel comfortable when you are scheduling them for appointments.
- Adaptability to different personalities and situations so as to diffuse, empathize, and encourage clients as required.
- Ability to write correspondences in a cohesive manner to federal, county, and local agencies.
- Must be knowledge of Microsoft Office and QuickBooks, as well as, be able to learn, retain, utilize and adapt to new computer programs.
- Have basic understanding of office edict and how to conduct yourself in a professional matter at all times both on and off duty.
- Handle some medical subject matter that may be graphic, in a respectful and mature manner.
- Must be willing to take initiative to make things happen within the perimeters given.
- Mandatory complete understanding of the Confidentially and HIPPA
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Must be willing to take required OMA training and background screening for employment.
Working Conditions
- Work from 9:00 am – 2:30 PM, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Hours will vary from 15-18 hours per week.
- Attend Annual Memorial Day & Veterans Day Ceremony or Parade/any Parades (if/when required) and work many shifts for the VAC Booth at the Boone County Fair. These such events may fall on weekend or evening after the normal workday as required.
- Have a driver's license and be able to drive the office vehicle for work related tasks. Periodically work outside of the office and/or drive personal vehicle for work related task. If such tasks are required, the VAC will be reimbursed at the current rate.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and work on a computer for a full workday.
- Required ability to complete multiple respective tasks.
- Ability to occasionally lift 25 lbs.
- Set up table display at events located throughout the county or nearby counties.
This position is a Part-Time position of 15 hours per week – Starting $18.00 per hour based on experience.
