Java Full-Stack Software Engineer
Location: Deerfield, IL (Days onsite negotiable during contract, then ~4 days/week to convert to FTE)
Duration & Type: Initial 6-month Contract with chance for extension or conversion

Chamberlain Advisors is partnering with a large, enterprise pharmaceutical retail organization to identify a Java Full-Stack Software Engineer to support a high-impact merchandising and space planning technology initiative. This role supports a custom-built, mission-critical application used to manage assortment data, automate planogram-related workflows, and integrate with a leading third-party space planning platform.The Software Engineer will join an Agile delivery team responsible for modernizing and automating processes that were historically manual and Excel-driven. As the organization increases its assortment clusters and planogram volume, this role plays a key part in improving scalability, efficiency, and data accuracy across merchandising operations.This ideal candidate has experience working collaboratively as part of a development team, strong written communication skills, including documentation of technical work, and the ability to work independently while aligning with team priorities. What You Will Be Accountable For
- Design, develop, and enhance a custom Java-based application supporting merchandising and space planning workflows
- Contribute evenly across front-end and back-end development (full-stack)
- Automate data ingestion and preprocessing pipelines that feed downstream space planning tools
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex application issues across environments
- Collaborate with onshore senior engineers, offshore developers, and support teams to deliver project milestones
- Participate actively in Agile ceremonies including daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, and sprint planning
- Write clear technical documentation and communicate development progress effectively
- Research and recommend best practices, tools, and approaches to improve application performance and maintainability
- Support Oracle database interactions and data-driven application components
- Follow source control and deployment standards using Git-based repositories
What Qualifications You Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- 5–7 years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong hands-on experience with Java in both front-end and back-end development
- Proficiency with JavaScript and .NET (C# helpful)
- Experience with Blue Yonder Space Planning or Category Management systems (highly valued)
- Demonstrated ability to debug and troubleshoot complex applications (critical requirement)
- Experience working in Agile development environments
- Strong understanding of version control using Git
- Exposure to rules engines, AI, or machine learning concepts (nice-to-have; may support future initiatives)
- Experience with Oracle Database
- Exposure to React or other modern UI frameworks helpful.
