As a Business Development Representative, you'll play a key role in expanding our reach and deepening our community ties. You'll actively seek out and engage potential members, businesses, and partners-building strong, lasting relationships along the way. Whether you're representing the Credit Union at a civic event, attending a local networking mixer, or leading outreach initiatives, your presence will help elevate our brand and mission. You'll also keep a close eye on local trends and community needs, using that insight to help guide strategic growth and ensure we're meeting people where they are.

Requirements for the Business Development Representative Job

This position requires a high level of initiative, independence, and professionalism. As a representative of the Credit Union, you'll be expected to manage your time effectively while balancing in-office tasks with regular community outreach. You'll need to confidently promote the Credit Union's mission, products, and services to individuals, businesses, and partner organizations-often in public settings such as networking events, community meetings, and local functions.

This role involves building and maintaining relationships across a wide range of audiences, so strong communication and interpersonal skills are a must. You should be comfortable presenting to groups, initiating conversations, and serving as a consistent and trusted presence in the community. Flexibility is essential, as evening and weekend event attendance will occur and local travel is expected. The work environment is fast-paced and dynamic, requiring strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and adapt as needed-all while keeping the Credit Union's values and member-first mindset at the forefront.

This in-person role offers a dynamic blend of in-office responsibilities and external community engagement. You'll spend time meeting people, attending events, and making connections throughout the area. Some evening and weekend hours will be part of the schedule, especially when community events are involved.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and reach out to potential members, businesses, and partners within the target market.
  • Actively engage with and provide leadership in local civic and business organizations to enhance community presence. Develop and maintain strategic business relationships and collaborative partnerships to support organizational goals.

  • Responsible for analysis of relevant statistics for the business development plan, making recommendations to management when required. Leverage various tools and techniques (cold calling, email outreach, networking, and social media) to generate leads and set appointments.
  • Maintain and build an active pipeline of prospects to ensure a consistent flow of new business.
  • Maintains high product knowledge by learning new selling techniques, new products and market trends.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, competitors, and customer preferences to help shape sales strategies and improve member acquisition processes.
  • Performs other job-related duties required or assigned.
Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of experience in sales, business development, or a customer-facing role, preferably in financial services. Previous experience working in or with credit unions or financial institutions is a plus.
  • Education:
    • (1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific experience acquired through similar field.
  • Interpersonal Skills:
    • Enthusiastic, positive attitude, and a strong passion for helping others achieve their financial goals. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships with diverse audiences. Self-motivated, results-driven, and able to work independently with minimal supervision. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Other Skills:
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and lead generation tools.
Compensation & Benefits

Budgeted starting rate: $58,656/year. This is an exempt role.

This role is eligible for the following benefits:

401(k) Retirement Savings Plan - eligible to participate in after one full month of employment

Matching Contributions after 1000 hours of service, 21 years of age and six months of employment. You may begin your contribution on the first pay period of the calendar quarter after one full month of employment. Entry is quarterly.

Safe Harbor contributions. CTCU provides every eligible employee a contribution of 3% of compensation. In order to participate in the employer contributions under Safe Harbor, you must be 21 years of age, have 12 months of service and work at least 1,000 hours during that 12 months. Safe Harbor funds are 100% vested and employees who have met eligibility requirements are eligible to receive the Safe Harbor contribution by completing one hour of service. Safe Harbor entry is semi-annually.
