Respiratory Therapist Job Details

• Location: Peoria, IL 61637 (Illinois healthcare jobs)
• Setting: Hospital – Respiratory Therapy Unit
• Employment Type: Travel/Locum Tenens
• Shift: 12-hour nights
• Hours per Week: 36
• Assignment Duration: 13 weeks (Start: 9/22/2025, End: 12/22/2025)
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $2020 - $2070

Registered Respiratory Therapist Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
• Completion of an accredited respiratory therapy program
• Active Respiratory Care Practitioner license in Illinois
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC)
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification
• Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) documentation
• Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and stand for up to 4 hours
• Compliance with drug-free campus policy (negative drug screen required)

Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities

• Provide respiratory care services per physician orders to patients in general, intermediate, ICU, and emergency units
• Perform life-saving interventions during emergencies, including Rapid Response and Blue Alerts
• Act as primary airway manager during Blue Alerts
• Initiate and manage mechanical ventilation, including advanced ventilator modes
• Administer aerosolized medications and specialty medical gases (Nitrogen, Heliox, Nitric Oxide)
• Assess patient response to therapy and recommend adjustments as needed
• Document all interventions and patient responses per regulatory standards
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds in ICUs and intermediate care units
