We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to support our finance department and play a key role in managing financial operations for our construction projects.

Position Summary

The Assistant Controller reports directly to the Controller and is responsible for supporting all accounting functions, supervising a small accounting team, and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. This position requires strong knowledge of construction accounting, project costing, compliance requirements, and specialized billing processes within the industry.

The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, highly organized, and able to thrive in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

• Assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements, general ledger maintenance, and financial analysis.
• Prepare monthly Work in Progress (WIP) reports for ongoing construction projects.
• Support annual audit processes and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.

Construction Accounting & Billing

• Oversee and execute AIA billing and Textura submissions for construction projects.
• Maintain job costing records, ensuring accuracy of costs, revenue, and project allocations.
• Coordinate subcontractor compliance through B2GNow and internal tracking systems.
• Review and approve accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.

Payroll, Union, and Compliance Support

• Assist with payroll processing, including union reporting and certified payroll requirements.
• Ensure compliance with project, local, state, and federal financial regulations.
• Support the Controller with internal controls, process improvements, and policy development.

Team Leadership

• Provide training, guidance, and performance support.
• Foster efficient workflows and promote a collaborative team culture.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting , Finance , or related field required.
• CPA preferred , but not required.
• Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience within accounting.
• At least 3–5 years of construction accounting experience strongly preferred.

Technical Skills

• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office , especially Excel.
• Experience with construction accounting software (e.g., Viewpoint, Sage, CMiC, or similar).
• Knowledge of AIA billing, Textura, B2GNow , and job costing principles.
• Familiarity with union payroll and certified payroll reporting is a plus.
