The Harlem-Roscoe Fire Protection District (HRFPD) is conducting testing to establish a pool of candidates for the position of Full-Time Firefighter Paramedic. Candidates are required to complete the NTN Fireteam exam and the NTN PHQ/Application. All testing and documents must be submitted by October 31, 2024.

Required Documents at the Time of Hire:

Basic Operations Firefighter or Advanced Technician Firefighter Certification
Illinois Department of Public Health Paramedic License (Candidates currently enrolled in a Paramedic Course may apply but must be certified within two years of hire)
Valid Illinois Driver's License
Current CPR Certification
CPAT with Ladder Climb Endorsement
Selected candidates from the pool may be contacted to continue with the remaining stages of the hiring process.

Starting Salary: $70,004 (Includes a one-time $5,000 certified Paramedic bonus upon completion of the probation period)
Year 2 Salary: $72,804.16

Department Information:
The Harlem-Roscoe Fire Protection District consists of approximately 25 Career Firefighters, Contract, Paid on-premises, and Paid on-call firefighters. The district prioritizes high-quality training for all personnel. Operating from three fire stations, HRFPD responds to over 3,900 emergency calls annually, including fires, emergency medical services, vehicle accidents, and specialized rescues.

Area Information:
The HRFPD covers an 85-square-mile area, including Roscoe, Rockton, Argyle, and Machesney Park in Winnebago County, with contracted areas in Boone County. The population served is approximately 30,000.

Job Requirements:

Age: Must be at least 21 years old and less than 35 at the time of hire, unless meeting exceptions outlined in Illinois law (70 ILCS 705/16.06b).
US Citizenship: Legal resident or naturalized citizen of the United States.
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Driver's License: Must possess a valid Illinois driver's license.
Language Skills: Ability to read, write, and speak English.
Medical: Must meet medical and vision standards as per NFPA 1582 guidelines.

There is no residency requirement for this position.

Additional Requirements:

Must meet the district's knowledge, health, and physical qualifications.
Demonstrate good moral character, temperate personal habits, and a strong work ethic.
Obtain the OSFM Advanced Technician Firefighter certification within three years of hire.
Preference Points:

Military Service: 5 points
Residency: 5 points
Education: 5 points for a Bachelor's Degree; 3 points for an Associate's Degree in Fire Science; 2 points for an Associate's Degree in any other field
Current Harlem-Roscoe Contract Personnel: 5 points
Experience: 0.5 points per year as a Paid on Call with HRFPD, up to a maximum of 5 points
Total preference points will not exceed 25.
