Med/Surg RN Job Details

• Estimated Weekly Salary: $2000 - $2050
• Assignment Type: Locum tenens (Travel nursing contract)
• Unit: Urology/Nephrology – 25-bed medical surgical unit, average census 23
• Shift: Night shifts, 4x12 or 3x12 hours (18:45 - 07:15)
• Duration: 13 weeks (Start: 9/29/2025 – End: 12/29/2025)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Charting System: Cerner EMR
• Scrub Color: Any solid color
• Parking: Free with permit

Med/Surg RN Qualifications

• Current and active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license or in process
• Minimum 2 years of recent medical surgical nursing experience (Urology/Nephrology experience preferred)
• BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross required)
• Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical records
• Cardiac monitoring and emergency response skills (Telemetry, Rapid Response Team experience)
• Experience with genitourinary and renal case management (Pre/Post Hemodialysis, Renal failure)
• IV therapy and phlebotomy skills (Blood product administration, Central/PICC line management, IV starts)
• Respiratory case management (Chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, non-invasive airway management)
• Wound care and infection control (Isolation precautions, wound vacs)
• Ability to float to other Medical Surgical units as needed
• Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)

Med/Surg RN Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult patients with urology and nephrology diagnoses, including kidney transplant, renal failure, and complex bladder surgeries
• Manage pre- and post-operative care for kidney transplant patients
• Perform IV therapy, phlebotomy, and medication administration (including Heparin)
• Monitor and respond to cardiac and respiratory emergencies using telemetry and rapid response protocols
• Provide wound care, manage isolation precautions, and utilize wound vacs
• Float to other Med/Surg units as required to support hospital staffing needs
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including IV, respiratory, physical therapy, pharmacy, and social services
• Maintain accurate patient documentation using Cerner EMR
• Support a busy medical surgical unit with frequent admissions and discharges
