About the Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) – Orthopedic Inpatient is a professional caregiver responsible for managing a group of patients and delivering high-quality care using the nursing process. This role integrates clinical expertise, patient-centered care, and interdisciplinary collaboration to support orthopedic and medical-surgical patients in an inpatient setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care

• Provide comprehensive nursing care using assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation
• Perform initial and ongoing patient assessments each shift
• Develop and update individualized care plans based on patient and family needs
• Deliver care to orthopedic and medical-surgical patients

Orthopedic-Specific Duties

• Educate patients on wound care, mobility, self-care, and medication management
• Set up and manage orthopedic traction and surgical traction devices
• Handle wound care equipment including wound vacs, drains, and urological devices
• Coordinate care with physicians and orthopedic surgeons

Clinical Operations

• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in EPIC EMR
• Delegate tasks and monitor support staff performance
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and report hazards/incidents
• Modify care plans based on patient progress and clinical evaluation

Collaboration & Professional Development

• Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary teams
• Provide constructive feedback and support peer development
• Identify learning needs and participate in ongoing education
• Meet all departmental competencies and standards

Additional Details:

• Shift: Day shift (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
• Hours: 36 hours/week
• Language: English (Read, Write, Speak)

Requirements

Education

• ASN (required)
• BSN (preferred)

Experience

• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience
• Strong background in Med/Surg and Orthopedic Nursing

Licensure & Certifications

• Active Illinois RN License (in good standing)
• BLS (AHA) certification

Mandatory Skills:

• Orthopedic Nursing
• Medical-Surgical Nursing
• EPIC EMR experience
• Experience in a Trauma Level I facility (must be listed on profile)
