We are seeking a compassionate, mission-driven Shelter Medicine Veterinarian to join our dedicated team of animal welfare professionals in Chicago. This full-time position is structured as four 10-hour shifts per week, with compensation ranging from $150,000–$170,000 annually, depending on experience. This is an hourly role, ensuring fair pay for your time and dedication.

As a Shelter Medicine Veterinarian, you will focus on providing comprehensive medical care to animals within our shelter population — from intake through adoption. Your expertise will help ensure every animal receives high-quality, timely treatment and the best chance at a healthy future. This position is NOT spay/neuter focused, allowing you to fully dedicate your skills to SHELTER medicine.

We ask for a minimum of three weekend shifts each month, with a preference for four. This role replaces a valued team member who transitioned to part-time, and you’ll be stepping into a supportive and collaborative environment that values both professional growth and progressive animal welfare practices.

Qualifications:

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) with an active Illinois veterinary license.
• At least one year of experience in shelter medicine.
• Commitment to progressive animal welfare
• Compassionate, detail-oriented, and dedicated to improving the lives of homeless animals.
