Elementary School Teacher's Assistant

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Teacher’s Assistant to support the Kindergarten classroom instruction and student development at the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Academy. This role is ideal for an experienced paraprofessional who values collaboration, structure, and making a meaningful impact on students’ lives.

Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Schedule: Monday–Friday | 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Reports To: Academy Principal

Compensation : $17 - $18 per hour, based on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Support instructional activities in whole-class, small-group, and one-on-one settings
• Supervise students during instructional and non-instructional periods
• Assist with classroom management and reinforce positive behavior expectations
• Prepare instructional materials and maintain an organized classroom
• Support informal assessments, student observations, and documentation
• Provide additional support to students with individualized needs, as directed
• Maintain a safe, clean, and engaging learning environment
• Model Jackie Joyner-Kersee’s Winning in Life principles, Biblical values, and Christian educational philosophy
• Communicate professionally with students, families, and colleagues
• Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
• Paraprofessional certification strongly preferred
• Associate’s degree in Education, Early Childhood, or related field (preferred)
• Minimum 2 years of experience working with children in a classroom or educational setting
• Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively and work independently
• Comfort using classroom technology (Microsoft Office, Promethean Boards, tablets)
• Mandated Reporter Certification (required; may be completed upon hire)

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Active school environment with frequent standing, walking, and movement
• Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds occasionally
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond calmly in dynamic situations
