Senior Accountant - Financial Reporting
Senior Accountant - Statutory & GAAP Reporting
Locations: Chicago, IL (Hybrid)
Compensation: $90,000 - 120,000 base + bonus
A privately held, multi-entity insurance organization with long-standing market presence is seeking a technically disciplined Senior Accountant to join its Financial Reporting team.
This role sits within the corporate finance function and supports both statutory insurance reporting and consolidated U.S. GAAP financial reporting. It is intended for an accounting professional who understands regulated insurance accounting environments and is comfortable operating within structured quarterly and annual reporting cycles.
The Role
The Senior Accountant will play a hands-on role in monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across statutory insurance entities and consolidated GAAP reporting. This position requires fluency in insurance accounting frameworks, strong reconciliation discipline, and the ability to contribute to financial statement preparation and reporting analytics.
This is not a transactional accounting position. It requires demonstrated experience in financial reporting and regulated accounting environments.
Key Responsibilities
Execute assigned components of monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles for statutory insurance reporting and consolidated GAAP reporting
Prepare and review portions of financial statements, footnotes, and supporting schedules
Perform detailed account reconciliations and journal entry preparation
Calculate expense allocations and assist with consolidation of financial information
Support management reporting packages and perform ad hoc financial analyses
Identify opportunities to improve reporting workflows and strengthen internal controls
Document accounting procedures to enhance consistency and cross-training
Respond to internal leadership and audit requests for financial analytics and reporting support
Required Qualifications
This opportunity is designed for candidates who meet the following minimum criteria:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
Minimum 3+ years of progressive accounting and/or audit experience
- Property & Casualty insurance experience
Demonstrated understanding of U.S. GAAP financial reporting
Working knowledge of insurance statutory accounting principles
Experience preparing or supporting financial statements
Strong Excel proficiency (advanced formulas, reconciliations, data analysis)
Ability to manage multiple reporting deadlines within structured close calendars
Preferred but not required:
CPA designation (or active progress toward licensure)
Experience with Oracle Fusion or comparable enterprise ledger systems
Professional Profile
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Strong analytical judgment and technical accounting discipline
Precision and attention to detail in regulated reporting environments
Ability to operate independently while maintaining transparent communication with leadership
Comfort working extended hours during quarterly and annual close periods
A process-oriented mindset with interest in control enhancement and reporting efficiency
Work Environment
This is a hybrid position requiring in-office presence at least three days per week for candidates residing within commuting distance of one of the listed office locations. The role involves regular interaction via in-person meetings, video conferencing, and phone communication, as well as occasional business travel when required.
Who Will Not Be a Fit
This role is not aligned with:
- Professionals without exposure to financial statement preparation
Candidates limited to AP/AR or transactional accounting experience
Professionals without exposure to financial statement preparation
Applicants seeking fully remote arrangements
Why Consider This Opportunity
Exposure to both statutory and consolidated GAAP reporting
High visibility within a regulated insurance enterprise
Opportunity to influence process improvement and internal controls
