• Employment Type: Locum tenens (travel nursing contract)

• Healthcare Setting: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
• Start Date: September 22, 2025
• End Date: December 20, 2025
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $2250 - $2310

PICU RN Qualifications

• Active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
• Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience in a pediatric, PICU, or critical care setting
• Associate's Degree in Nursing (ASN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (American Heart Association)

PICU Nurse Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to pediatric patients in the PICU
• Implement evidence-based procedures and pediatric intensive care nursing theories
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation for effective clinical support and team integration
• Conduct initial patient assessments and develop individualized pediatric care plans
• Modify care plans and nursing interventions as needed for optimal patient outcomes
• Monitor intake/output, manage dressings, insert catheters, and initiate IVs for pediatric patients
• Administer medications using bar code scanning protocols to ensure patient safety
• Notify healthcare providers of high-alert lab results and act as a mandated reporter for suspected abuse or neglect
• Facilitate excellent communication with patients and families through hourly rounding, bedside reports, and whiteboard updates
• Collaborate with Pediatric Intensivists, Hospitalists, and multidisciplinary healthcare team members
• Engage in ongoing professional development and identify personal learning needs
