Mazak/Okuma CNC Setup Machinist

If setting up a machining center, dialing in offsets, and holding tight tolerances feels second nature, we want to hear from you. Based in Palatine, IL, this production-focused role is a long-term contract with potential to convert to direct hire.

Questions to Ask Yourself

• Can you read a blueprint at a glance and apply GD&T? You’ll verify this during a required blueprint test in the interview.
• Do you comfortably switch between mills and lathes and keep parts within spec using micrometers and calipers?
• Are you confident setting up Mazak or Okuma controls (with Haas exposure as a plus)?
• Do you maintain quality while meeting production targets in a fast-moving team setting?

What You’ll Be Doing

• Set up and operate CNC machining centers to run production parts (Mazak and Okuma preferred; Haas may be used).
• Interpret blueprints and validate features using precision measurement tools.
• Perform deburring and cleaning with hand and power tools for a finished result.
• Handle parts from 1–25 lbs., occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Follow safety and operational procedures while sustaining throughput and consistency.

What It Takes

• At least 3 years of CNC machining experience (operation or setup; not entry-level).
• Demonstrated blueprint reading ability (includes a blueprint test during the interview).
• Skilled with micrometers, calipers, and related gauges.
• Working knowledge of shop math and standard machining practices.
• Ability to stand for most of the shift and lift 25 lbs. regularly (50 lbs. occasionally).
• Willingness to work 2nd shift (4:30 PM – 1:30 AM, Monday–Friday) or 1st shift with possible Saturday overtime.

Great-to-Have

• 6–8 years in CNC machining (advanced level).
• Proven CNC setup capability in addition to machine operation.
• Comfort with Mazak and/or Okuma; Haas familiarity is beneficial.
• Extra coursework or certifications (e.g., Continuous Improvement Institute or equivalent).
• Strong organization and problem-solving in dynamic production.
