Billing Supervisor – Chicago
A well-respected law firm with multiple offices is seeking an experienced Billing Supervisor to join its Chicago office.
This position plays an important role in overseeing daily billing operations, supporting team members, and ensuring billing functions are completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with firm policies and procedures.
The ideal candidate will bring strong legal billing experience, leadership skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining exceptional client service.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day workflow of the Billing team across multiple offices
- Serve as a resource for billing staff by providing guidance, training, and support
- Monitor workloads and recommend staffing or assignment adjustments as needed
- Communicate regularly with the Billing Manager regarding departmental operations and workflow
- Handle billing responsibilities for assigned attorneys, including preparation and processing of monthly proformas
- Collaborate with attorneys and clients regarding invoice formatting and presentation
- Coordinate billing functions in compliance with firm procedures, accounting standards, and internal controls
- Partner with the e-billing team to troubleshoot billing issues and maintain knowledge of electronic billing systems
- Assist with maintaining and updating billing policies and procedures
- Help identify process improvements and support initiatives to meet departmental deadlines
- Review work product and provide performance feedback for assigned staff
- Finalize invoices, process edits, and generate billing-related reports in accordance with firm guidelines
- Foster a collaborative and team-oriented environment within the department and across the firm
Qualifications
- Minimum of 7 years of legal billing experience required
- At least 2 years of experience using 3E billing software required
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in Accounting, Business, or a related field
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Prior supervisory or team lead experience preferred
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain attention to detail
- Flexible and dependable with the ability to work additional hours as needed
Compensation & Benefits
The firm offers a competitive compensation package along with a comprehensive benefits program designed to support employees both professionally and personally. Salary range for the Chicago market: $104,000 – $143,000 annually.
