Department Overview
The Hazel Crest Fire Department employs 18 sworn career fire personnel and two Chief officers. All members are paramedics operating under the South Cook County EMS system, with many also participating in specialty rescue teams including hazardous materials, technical rescue, fire investigation, and dive teams. The department responds to approximately 3,800 calls annually from one firehouse.

Job Requirements
Age: Must be at least 21 and under 35, unless otherwise allowed by Illinois state statute
Education: High school diploma or GED
Driver's License: Valid Illinois driver's license
Certifications: Illinois state-certified Firefighter and Illinois or nationally certified Paramedic (within 30-60 days of hire)
CPAT and Ladder Climb Certification: Must have valid certifications within one year of hire
Hiring Process
NTN Exam: Pass with a score of 70 or higher.
Oral Interview: Conducted by the Hazel Crest Board of Fire and Police Commissioners.
Final Assessments: Includes a thorough background investigation, psychological assessment, medical screening, and drug screening. (Candidates will be contacted by Hazel Crest administrative staff to schedule these appointments.)
