Public Health Nutritionist (Nurse or Nutritionist) (Part-Time)

The DeKalb County Health Department is seeking a part-time (22.5 hours per week) Public Health Nutritionist. This position reports directly to the WIC/BBO-C Coordinator. Ideal candidates have excellent communication skills, is detail oriented, organized and possesses an interest in improving the health in our community.

Responsibilities

• Provides and evaluates nutrition needs and services of maternal, infant and child clients within the Community Health and Prevention division.
• Determines food package prescriptions based on assessment of client health and dietary status.
• Identifies individuals with high-risk medical and nutritional needs and initiates appropriate referrals and interventions within program guidelines.
• Supports efficient, client-centered clinic operations through timely completion of nutrition counseling and charting.
• Coordinates nutrition interventions, including breastfeeding support, tailored to WIC participants' needs.
• Educates clients on dietary risk factors related to health promotion and disease prevention.
• Utilizes a variety of computer programs to complete daily activities, including charting, benefit issuance and EMR documentation.
• Implements outreach activities and participates in WIC initiatives, including late clinics, off-site and pop-up events.
• Maintains all required WIC certifications such as MPF, VENA and CLS/CLC.
• Provides appropriate, unbiased referrals to community agencies and internal programs.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited nutrition program. Candidates with a bachelor's degree and a minimum of eight college-level Health Sciences courses may be considered.

OR

• Licensed RN with a strong background in maternal and child nutrition, lactation and nutrition education.
• Minimum one year of experience in public health or community nutrition preferred.
• Bilingual, English/Spanish or English/Arabic, preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to problem solve, be flexible and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Requires successful completion of training programs approved by the WIC program.
• May require some early evening hours and off-site clinics.
