Cake Decorator

Position: Cake Specialist, Decorator, pastry related (experience required - minimum 2 yrears)

Summary of our Verzenay's business: We make handcrafted French baked goods, pastries, cakes and breads, with no artificial ingredients! We currently sell direct to our customers, sell at gourmet store fronts and also sell in the Chicago's Farmer's Market.

Activities & Responsibilities

o Prepare a wide variety of goods such as cakes, pastries, desserts etc. following traditional and modern recipes.

o Consulting with customers to discuss desired cake designs and cake decorating ideas for specialty and wedding cakes.

o Designing and decorating cakes according to customers' specifications.

o This position reports to Lead Pastry Chef.

o Decorating regular bakery items according to established bakery standards.

o Producing different kinds of icing, frosting, and cake fillings based on cake type and customer preferences by following given recipes.

o Must have good math skills and an artistic eye to create, design and execute elaborate and intricate cake decorations.

o Have good knowledge and experience using decoration tools like air brush, modeling tools, etc.

o Have experience working with Natural colors, alternative ingredients and good improvisational skills.

o Ensure that all food and products are consistently prepared and served according to the bakery’s recipes, portioning, cooking and serving standards.

o Should have strong organizational and time management skills.

o Order or requisition food, equipment, or other supplies needed to ensure efficient operation.

o Take delivery of supplies and store in designated areas as soon as receiving the products.

o Check the quantity and quality of received products.

o Should be able to lift objects weighing about 50lbs, lift, bend and stand for long hours during shifts.

o Wash, cut, and prepare foods designated for cooking.

o Measure ingredients required for specific food items being prepared.

o Pre-cook items such as vegetables, meat etc, to prepare them for later use.

o Proof and bake breads, pastries, etc as per instructions.

o Verify that prepared food meets requirements for quality and quantity.

o Check and maintain proper food holding and refrigeration temperature control points

o Clean, stock, and restock workstations and food storage areas.

o Maintain sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas.

o Wash tools, prep tools, equipment and other dishes by hand when needed.

o Clean and organize food preparation areas, other equipment and food storage areas and taking out trash.

o Attend all scheduled employee meetings and offer suggestions for improvement.

o Coordinate with and assist fellow employees to meet guests’ needs and support the operation of the bakery.

o Work as a team and train other employees as needed.

Compensation Details

Compensation: Hourly ($18.00 - $21.00)
