Examples of Duties
• Coordinates and monitors major capital project design through bidding and contract issuance, and in collaboration with the Design Project Manager, monitors construction activities to ensure compliance with design specifications, and the maintenance of sound architectural standards
• Directs, coordinates, and evaluates employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with all policies and applicable laws. Interviews, hires and trains employees; plans, assigns, and directs work; creates work schedules and conducts performance appraisals, counsels, and disciplines employees; and addresses complaints and resolves problems.
• Coordinating construction projects utilizing in-house and / or contractor skilled trades.
• Coordinates and schedules various maintenance related inspections including roof, fire extinguishers, elevators, and fume hoods
• This position will participate in the University's Qualification Based Selection process utilized in the hiring of Architectural and Engineering firms providing design services to the University.
• Assist the Supervising Architect/Engineer in the development and implementation of administrative policies, procedures, and short- and long-range planning for University construction projects and Construction Management.
• Acts in an advisory capacity to the Supervising Architect/Engineer concerning proposed policies, or procedures related to Construction Management.
• Establishes cooperative relationships with, and act as a liaison to university units and committees to determine and prioritize needs and services in relation to Construction Management projects.
• Establishes cooperative relationships with, and in the absence of the Supervising Architect/Engineer, act as a liaison to the Illinois Capital Development Board to determine and prioritize needs and services in relation to Construction Management projects.
• In the absence of the Supervising Architect/Engineer, act as liaison with the Director of Facilities & Energy Management and other FEM Administrators in matters pertaining to Construction Management projects.
• Attend scheduled pay/progress meetings for construction projects as representative of using agency
• Responsible for campus building roof maintenance. Assess problems and promptly schedule proper repairs or improvements
• Assist with final inspections before acceptance of projects
• Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in architecture or engineering.*2. Two (2) years of work experience managing commercial and/or institutional construction projects.* NOTE: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.
Preferred: 1. Licensed Architect or Engineer in the state of Illinois 2. Ten (10) years of experience managing commercial and/or institutional construction projects 3. Experience with Illinois Capital Development Board 4. Experience with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Revit
