Instructional Design Consultant
Roles/Responsibilities:
- Multi-Modal Learning Content Development:
- Design, develop, and deliver interactive and engaging multi-modal learning materials (e.g., e-learning modules, videos, playbooks, and instructor-led content) that are aligned to CCC's 12 performance competencies and performance management processes such as goal setting and providing ongoing feedback. Multi-modal content should meet the needs of diverse learning styles, preferences, and skill levels.
- Utilize various tools and platforms (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, video production software, and other tools provided by the Online Learning team and/or IT) to create dynamic and engaging learning experiences.
- Develop clear, concise, and learner-centered instructional materials, ensuring content is aligned with the institution's performance competencies.
- Developing train-the-trainer guides materials and guides district-wide collaborators who will facilitate instructor-led or guided training.
- Co-design change management communications and resources with Institutional Excellence, Human Resources, and MarCom teams to enhance staff adoption of performance-focused training tools and supplemental performance management system learning aides.
- Produce a range of multimodal learning assets. These assets will include a mix of videos, microlearning courses, and long-form courses aligned to the six 12 performance competencies, and other complementary topics. Complementary topics may include, but are not limited to, positive accountability, giving and receiving feedback, and effective management skills. o CCC will require possession of native artwork for videos, graphics, etc. to make updates on materials as needed.
- Multi-Modal content should follow City Colleges' brand guidelines in terms of visuals and language. Brand guidelines, photography, and video can be provided.
- LMS System, Deployment and Content Management
- Deploy and manage learning content within the LMS (Brightspace), ensuring seamless integration, accessibility, and user experience.
- Design, maintain, and update a single content repository (Performance Excellence Platform) via SharePoint to ensure that all learning materials are organized, up-to-date, and easy to access for learners and facilitators.
- Provide ongoing support and troubleshoot technical issues related to content delivery and learner access to Brightspace or SharePoint.
- The Performance Excellence Platform must meet all applicable accessibility standards, including full compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. The platform must support screen readers, keyboard navigation, color contrast requirements, closed captioning for multimedia, and other inclusive design features to ensure equitable access for all users, including individuals with disabilities.
- The final solution must be delivered within the existing CCC technology infrastructure, specifically through either Brightspace (D2L) or Microsoft SharePoint. Proposals must reflect this constraint. Solutions outside of these platforms will not be considered. Learning Management System SOPs Development:
- Develop and document comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for LMS use, ensuring clarity and consistency in processes related to content deployment, updates, learner enrollment, and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to create standardized processes for content creation, approval, and archiving to maintain quality and consistency across learning assets.
- Ensure that SOPs are regularly updated to reflect new features, technology updates, or procedural improvements within Brightspace and SharePoint.
- Testing and Continuous Improvement
- Conducting user experience testing and gathering user feedback
- Use learner feedback and performance data to iterate on and improve instructional content and tools.
- Regularly review and update LMS SOPs in response to organizational needs or changes in learning technology.
- Establishing a maintenance plan for long-term sustainability
Desirable Skills:
- Technical Expertise
- Master's degree in Instructional Design, Education, or related field
- Proven experience (5+ years) designing and developing multi-modal learning content.
- Strong technical proficiency with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and content development tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, etc.).
- Experience using data and analytics tools to assess learning effectiveness and program impact.
- Strong experience developing and documenting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for LMS and learning content management.
- Collaboration, Communication, and Creative Skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders across multiple departments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to translate existing content and performance-focused training needs assessment into training and interactive learning content solutions.
- Strong collaborative project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Experience creating clear documentation and process documentation.
- Ability to design and create accessible, engaging, and learner-centered content for diverse audiences.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Preferred Experience & Certifications
- Experience with SCORM or other eLearning standards.
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and basic web development for content deployment and customization.
- Familiarity with content management systems and a variety of content storage solutions.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams to establish and document SOPs.
- Work samples must be provided.
