Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Success, Inclusion & Belonging
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, serves on the Student Affairs Leadership Team and provides executive leadership for Student Success, Inclusion & Belonging (SSIB) units, programs, services, and initiatives across Student Affairs. Serves as a leader on issues related to student success, student engagement, equitable practices, inclusion, and belonging by representing Student Affairs in various collaborations and partnerships both across campus and in the community. Represent the Vice Chancellor, as needed.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide administrative, programmatic, budgetary, facility, and staffing oversight for the following units: Student Success, Inclusion & Belonging Administration, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Success, Inclusion & Belonging, Asian American Cultural Center; Bruce D. Nesbitt African American Cultural Center; The Career Center; The Center for Civic Education & Justice; Fraternity and Sorority Affairs; Gender & Sexuality Resource Center; Illinois Leadership Center; Illinois Student Council/Student Trustee; International Education; La Casa Cultural Latina; The Michael L. Jefferies, Sr. Center for Access and Academic Success; Native American House; New Student & Family Experiences; Salaam Middle East & North Africa Cultural Center; Student Engagement (Student Organizations, Sustainability); Spirit and Traditions; Testing Center; and Women's Resources Center.
- Provide campus leadership with campus partners (including Student Affairs units, Enrollment Management, Office of Access, Civil Rights and Community, Office of the Provost, academic colleges, etc.) in developing strategic initiatives to enhance the recruitment, retention, persistence, graduation, career readiness and continued success of students, especially first-generation, marginalized, and historically underrepresented student populations.
- Provide leadership on policy development and implementation related to student success, student engagement, facility management (SSIB units), and risk management.
- Advocate and develop evidence-based policies and practices that foster a sense of belonging and cultivate an inclusive environment for students to learn, grow, develop, and succeed in a global context.
- Develop a campus-wide strategy for developing students' career readiness by leveraging and connecting curricular and co-curricular experiences.
- Promote opportunities for academic partnerships to enhance experiences between students and faculty.
- Promote assessment strategies to leverage data in decision making.
- Engage alumni and assist with soliciting gifts, grants, and contacts to help advance SSIB's mission.
- Serve on campus committees, taskforces, and steering groups.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Master's degree in Education, Student Development, Student Personnel, or related field.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience providing vision, leadership and management in higher education, with 7 years of progressive leadership experience.
- Experience in Student Affairs administration, specifically related to student success, engagement, equitable practices, inclusion, and belonging.
- Experience in supervising full-time professional staff.
- Ability to think strategically and problem solve related to emerging trends and issues in higher education.
- Demonstrated experience in leading meetings and facilitating processes.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively with students, faculty, staff and the public from a wide range of backgrounds.
- Experience in developing, presenting, and marketing of programs, workshops, classes, and trainings.
- Experience managing budgets with multiple funding sources.
- Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration, or related field.
- Ability to navigate complex, decentralized collegiate/university organizational structures.
- Experience working with faculty to enhance the student experience.
- Managing student services facilities.
- Experience with assessment of programs and services.
- Experience with alumni relations and fundraising.
- Knowledge of student development theory, including marginalized and historically underrepresented student populations.
- Knowledge of strategies for recruitment, retention, persistence, and graduation of marginalized and historically underrepresented populations at a predominantly white institution.
- Knowledge of university policies and processes related to state and federal compliance.
- Effective communication skills that adapt to suit different audiences.
- Effective interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships across the campus and the community.
