GENERAL PURPOSE:

Butzel is seeking a standout candidate with experience in family law and/or commercial litigation to join our growing team in Southwest Michigan. Our firm has been in existence for over 170 years and has helped shape the legal and business landscape of Michigan’s largest cities. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Represent clients in family law matters including divorce, custody, parenting time, and support proceedings.
• Represent clients in commercial litigation matters including contract disputes, business torts, shareholder conflicts, and other types of litigation.
• Prepare for and represent clients in litigation proceedings, including trials, hearings, discovery, motion practice, etc.
• Construct and review pleadings, motions, discovery requests, settlement agreements, and other legal documents.
• Take and defend depositions and interact with expert witnesses.
• Collaborate with paralegals, legal assistants, and other attorneys within the Firm.
• Maintain responsive communication with other Firm attorneys and clients regarding case developments.
• Provide legal counsel and develop case strategies tailored to clients’ unique needs.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Excellent written and oral advocacy skills.
• Ability to provide client service befitting Butzel standards of excellence and hospitality.
• Oversee case files and manage deadlines efficiently using legal practice management systems.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR TRAINING:

• Must be a graduate of an accredited law school.
• Must have at least 3 years of experience as a practicing attorney.
• Admitted to practicing law in the state of Michigan.
• Have experience within the practice area of family law and/or commercial litigation.
• Supervisory experience a plus.
