A day in the life (2:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.)

As the 2nd-shift Machine Shop Supervisor in our Aftermarket Pump Repair Shop, you’ll be the point person on the shop floor—coordinating people, equipment, and priorities to deliver precise results on time and with zero compromises to safety.

• Kick off the shift by aligning machinists, mechanics, and technicians to job priorities and preset due dates.
• Translate customer requirements and job scopes into clear, actionable plans; track progress and provide detailed status updates.
• Collaborate across assembly, inspection, and welding to control work-in-process and keep every job moving.
• Review blueprints and drawings; verify tolerances; explain work instructions to your team.
• Partner with Engineers to resolve shop-floor challenges and optimize methods.
• Coordinate with Purchasing to ensure all required materials are on site before work begins.
• Maintain rigorous safety standards; model safe behaviors and train others.
• Communicate daily with the Shop Manager and ensure a smooth handoff to the next shift supervisor.
• Respond to urgent, unplanned work and organize weekend support when necessary.
• Balance multiple projects simultaneously and step in hands-on when needed.

Hands-on technical scope

• Manual machining of refurbished, large components on horizontal and vertical boring mills.
• Disassembly and reassembly of rotating equipment (pumps, valves, and related systems).
• Operation of manual, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electric tools; safe use of fork trucks and overhead cranes.

What you bring

• 5+ years of supervisory experience leading machinists/mechanics in an industrial aftermarket environment; minimum 5 years in a formal leadership role.
• 10+ years of hands-on job shop repair experience, including assembly and disassembly of pumps, valves, and rotating equipment.
• Experience in an equipment repair shop—ideally pumps or power generation.
• Background in manual machining and basic welding.
• Strong math and print-reading abilities; excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; basic computer skills for a computerized maintenance environment; ERP experience is a plus.
• Millwright mechanic background or formal training through a technical college/trade school or multi-year apprenticeship.
• Ability to work shift work and overtime as required; capable of coordinating emergency weekend work.
• Five or more years’ experience in machining and tooling within a custom machine shop (desired).
• Knowledge of electric motors; Journeyman or U.S. Military experience (desired).

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate’s degree or higher is a plus.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
