Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Details

• Location: Peoria, Illinois (61637) – Central Illinois healthcare jobs
• Facility: Cardiac Stepdown Care Unit (21 beds)
• Job Type: Locum Tenens / Travel Registered Nurse
• Assignment Dates: September 29, 2025 – December 29, 2025
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week (after orientation)
• Weekend Rotation: Every 3rd weekend
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 3:1
• Dress Code: Any non-pediatric scrubs
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $2130 - $2190

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license (required for Peoria nursing jobs)
• BLS certification (required)
• ACLS certification (preferred for cardiac stepdown nurses)
• Minimum 1 year of ICU or critical care nursing experience (highly recommended)
• EPIC charting experience (required for healthcare jobs)
• Ability to pass a drug screen (OSF is a drug-free campus)

Cardiac Stepdown Nurse Responsibilities

• Perform vital signs, full assessments, and intake/output at least every 4 hours
• Manage foley catheters, patient monitoring, and titrate single drips
• Implement fall risk protocols; ensure patient safety at all times
• Turn or reposition patients every 2 hours; encourage patient independence
• Conduct bedside reports and purposeful 4P rounding with Patient Care Technicians (PCTs)
• Collaborate with PCTs to plan and deliver patient care each shift
• Utilize care boards in patient rooms for effective communication
• Care for patients with subdural drains, lumbar drains, chest tubes, arterial lines, and central lines
• Operate EPIC, Pyxis, vein finder, IV pumps, cardiac monitors, lift equipment, bladder scanner, vents, and BiPAPs
• Float to other cardiac stepdown units, adult general medicine units, or ICU as needed
• Participate in unit-specific training: 1 day EPIC training, hands-on skill review, and 1 full shift orientation
