The Division of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA) invites applications for Assistant Athletic Trainer to support support Medicine and Track & Field and Cross Country. In addition, the Assistant Athletic Trainer will play a critical role in supporting the broader strategic priorities of the DIA, and ultimately this position will help foster a life-changing experience for student-athletes.
Since 1892, DIA has operated on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to support its intercollegiate athletic programs. Today, DIA supports 21 intercollegiate varsity sports which compete as a part of the Big Ten Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association. DIA provides the resources for over 500 student-athletes to participate at the highest levels of their respective sports. This extensive support ecosystem includes over 35 departments employing over 300 dedicated staff members including 80 plus varsity coaches working collaboratively to provide individualized championship-caliber opportunities to our student-athletes, in the classroom, in the competitive arena, and in personal and professional development, to enhance their growth and life preparation. This position will report to the Senior Associate Athletic Director, Sports Medicine
Job Summary
Support the DIA Sports Medicine Team, in providing medical coverage and support for the delivery of an integrated health care system to student-athletes participating in all intercollegiate athletics sport. The position supports the Lead Track & Field and Cross-Country Athletic Trainer, and DIA Sports Medicine Team, in providing medical coverage and support to student-athletes participating in the intercollegiate athletics sport programs of Track & Field and Cross-Country and possibly other sports and assignments. Impact in Your First Year
Within 3 months, you will:
Employee will support the health and wellness of student-athletes in assigned sports program
Within 6 months, you will:
Continue to cultivate relationships with team physicians, sports medicine staff as well as coaches, student-athletes and other support staff.
By the end of the first year, you will:
Employee will collaborate to continue to help build ad grow a first in class medical support system to student-athletes to create optimal outcomes with respect to athletic performance, academic success and overall health and wellness.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or related field. Certification by National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC), and continued compliance of continuing education requirements established by the NATABOC. Licensed, or licensure eligible, by the State of Illinois, by the Department of Professional Regulation.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in athletic training or related field. Experience as a certified athletic trainer in a collegiate setting.
High moral and ethical standards.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- 1. Maintain NATABOC certification and state licensure through regular attendance of continuing educational programs and compliance of continuing educational requirements established by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATA-BOC). 2. Knowledge of concussion testing and evaluation as it relates to the health of male and female student-athletes. 3. Maintain appropriate Occupational and Safety, Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines for the DIA Sports Medicine Department. 4. Maintain knowledge of and compliance with specific NCAA, Big Ten Conference, and institution rules that relate to this position.

Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 5/4/2026. The salary for this position is $40,000 - $45,000.
This position is not eligible for any type of sponsorship for work authorization.
