Job Title: Sample Maker (Soft Goods/Leather Bags & Accessories)

About the Role:

The Sample Maker will be responsible for transforming design drawings into functional bag and accessory prototypes , with a strong focus on leather products such as purses. This role is critical in taking concepts from paper to physical samples that are production-ready.

Key Responsibilities:

• Interpret design drawings and turn them into high-quality bag and leather accessory samples.

• Develop production-ready patterns used to procure tooling and guide manufacturing.

• Determine sizing and structure based on bag contents and requested materials.

• Create accurate patterns with attention to how different materials—especially leather —behave during conversion and sewing.

• Use expertise in industrial sewing techniques and machines , especially for leatherwork.

• Construct high-quality, functional samples for review and approval.

• Translate approved samples into clear instructions or patterns for Sewing Staff to use in production.

• Collaborate with design and production teams to refine patterns and address construction challenges.

Requirements:

• Proven experience as a Sample Maker in soft goods, bags, or accessories.

• Industrial sewing experience with leather is required—specifically for making purses and similar products.

• Strong understanding of leather types, thicknesses, stretch, and edge finishing techniques.

• Skilled in operating industrial sewing machines used for heavy materials like leather.

• Excellent attention to detail in both pattern development and sample construction.

• Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet production timelines.

• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt designs into manufacturable formats.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in a production or prototyping environment focused on high-end or custom leather goods.

• Familiarity with hardware fitting, lining, and structural reinforcement in leather bag making.
