THE OPPORTUNITY

We're looking for a Pastry Cook to join our culinary team at Asador Bastian. This is a hands-on production role - you'll be in the kitchen every day preparing pastries, breads, dessert components, and frozen desserts alongside a team that genuinely cares about the details. WHAT YOU'LL DO

Daily Pastry Production

• Prepare baked goods, breads, and pastries for daily service and brunch.
• Produce dessert components, creams, custards, mousses, sauces, and garnishes.
• Assist with plated dessert execution during service.

Frozen Desserts

• Support the preparation of ice cream, gelato, and other frozen desserts following established recipes and production standards.
• Portion, store, and rotate frozen items correctly.

Kitchen Standards

• Keep your station clean, organized, and stocked throughout every shift.
• Follow FIFO rotation, proper labeling, and food safety procedures at all times.
• Assist with receiving and organizing pastry ingredients and supplies.

Team & Service

• Work closely with the culinary team to support smooth service execution.
• Maintain consistency in dessert presentation and communicate production needs to kitchen leadership.
• Pitch in on special events, catering, and private dining prep as needed.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

You don't need a resume packed with fine dining credentials, but you do need to show up, care about the work, and be someone your team can count on.

• Previous pastry or baking experience in a professional kitchen, culinary school, or both.
• A solid grasp of basic pastry and baking techniques.
• Ability to read and follow recipes and prep lists accurately.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and calm under pressure.
• Reliable and on time, every shift, ready to work.
• Flexible availability, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• ServSafe Food Handler Certification or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire.

NICE TO HAVE

• Experience with preparing pastries, breads and doughs
• Familiarity with frozen dessert production (ice cream, gelato, sorbet).
• Background in high-volume or fast-paced kitchen environments.
• Culinary or pastry certificate or degree is helpful, but not required.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

In compliance with the Illinois Equal Pay Act (amended effective January 1, 2025), Eat Well Hospitality provides the following compensation and benefits information for this position.

Pay Classification

Hourly, Non-Exempt

Pay Range

$20.00 – $24.00 per hour

Overtime

Eligible at 1.5x regular rate for hours worked over 40/week

Pay Frequency

Bi-Weekly

Paid Time Off

PTO, vacation, or sick policy — minimum Illinois Paid Leave Act: 40 hrs/yr

WHAT TO EXPECT

Location: Asador Bastian, Cook County, IL

Schedule: Variable - early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays

Breaks: 20-min meal break for shifts over 7.5 hrs (Illinois law)

Environment: Commercial kitchen - hot, cold, fast-paced
