Description: The Maintenance Technician / Shift Manager is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the facilities' operations during the afternoon and evening hours (6:30 AM – 3:00 PM) at Resurrection College Prep High School. Acting as a strong number two to the Director of Buildings and Grounds, this individual ensures high standards of quality throughout the building and grounds with minimal supervision. The Maintenance Technician / Shift Manager performs essential maintenance tasks while providing strategic guidance and operational oversight during their shift.
Relationships : The individual in this position will work closely with the Director of Buildings and Grounds, custodial staff, administration, faculty, and external vendors to ensure that the school's facilities are maintained in alignment with the school's mission and standards.
Primary Function: The Maintenance Technician / Shift Manager serves as the key point of contact for facilities operations during the afternoon and evening. This role manages the execution of maintenance tasks, supervises custodial staff during the shift, and ensures that facilities-related needs are met promptly and effectively. The individual will also support the Director of Buildings and Grounds by providing leadership and management support during their shift.

Work Environment & Expectations: Due to the essential, on-site nature of facilities operations, this position requires full-time, in-person presence on campus. The Maintenance Technician / Shift Manager plays a direct role in building safety, staff support, and emergency response; therefore, this position is not eligible for remote or hybrid work arrangements. The individual must be consistently available during the assigned shift and able to respond to building-related needs as they arise.
Experience & Education:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Maintenance Technician or Mechanic.
- Experience in a supervisory or shift management role is preferred.
- Experience in an educational setting is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Proficiency in at least two of the following areas: plumbing repair, light fixture repair, door repair, HVAC operation, emergency system operations, basic electrical work, and snow removal.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications or training in maintenance-related fields are a plus.
- Valid driver's license and ability to operate school vehicles and equipment.
Responsibilities
Maintenance Oversight & Execution:
- Perform routine maintenance tasks using common hand and power tools with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrate proficiency in at least two key maintenance areas, such as plumbing, electrical work, or carpentry.
- Conduct periodic inspections of equipment and facilities to identify and address maintenance needs.
- Utilize electrical meters and infrared thermometers for diagnostics and troubleshooting.
- Schedule and prioritize maintenance work around class schedules and room usage to minimize disruptions.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal codes, including safety regulations.
Shift Management & Leadership:
- Oversee and coordinate maintenance and custodial activities during the shift they are assigned to.
- Provide guidance, support, and supervision to evening custodial staff, fostering a collaborative team environment.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for facility-related issues during assigned hours, making decisions as necessary.
- Respond promptly to emergencies and urgent maintenance requests, coordinating with the Director as needed.
- Assist in training staff on proper maintenance procedures and safety protocols.
- Assist in annual staff member reviews.
Operational Support:
- Monitor parts and supplies inventory during the shift; recommend purchases as supplies are used.
- Assist staff and faculty with facility-related needs and inquiries during the shift.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and report significant issues to the Director.
- Operate snow removal equipment, including driving a snowplow, and perform all types of snow removal when required.
- Be available on weekends, especially during emergencies or special events.
- Be available to report to the school during off hours to assess any building and grounds related emergencies.
Community Engagement & Representation:
- Uphold and promote the school's Catholic and Lasallian values in all interactions.
- Interact professionally and courteously with building occupants, students, parents, and community members.
- Act as a role model for students and staff, demonstrating integrity and a strong work ethic.
Compliance & Safety:
- Maintain compliance with the Virtus program (Protecting God's Children).
- Ensure all maintenance activities adhere to safety standards and protocols.
- Safely lift and move objects up to 50 pounds and work in various physical environments, including climbing ladders and working on roofs.
Strategic Collaboration:
- Collaborate with the Director of Buildings and Grounds to align maintenance activities with the school's strategic objectives.
- Provide insights and feedback on facility needs and potential improvements.
- Participate in meetings and training sessions as required.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Job Type: Full-time (Afternoon/Evening Shift: 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM)
- Pay: Salary starting at $55,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
