The salary range for this position is $54.80 - $73.98 (Hourly Rate)

Placement within the salary range is dependent on several factors such as relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range is guided by the rules outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.

Description

The Manager-Protection, Investigations, Training (PIT)reflects the mission, vision and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, regulatory standards, and accreditation requirements.


The Manager, PIT leads and supports executive protection, investigations, and training activities across Northwestern Medicine. This role coordinates protective support for executives, leaders, dignitaries, high-profile individuals, and other identified persons or events when elevated security risk, workplace violence concerns, threats, or operational needs require a security response. The position conducts and supports complex investigations involving alleged crimes, employee misconduct, threat assessments, workplace violence, loss prevention matters, and other activity that may negatively impact NM hospitals and facilities.

The Manager, PIT also develops, coordinates, and supports Security Services training programs that strengthen preparedness, consistency, and operational effectiveness across the system. Partners with the Vice President of Security Services, Directors of Security Services, Risk Management, Human Resources, Office of General Counsel, and Security Services Managers on operational functions.

The Manager, PIT will independently balance the demands of multi-location protection support, investigations, training initiatives, and other security priorities throughout NMHC locations.

Responsibilities :
Executive Protection

  • Lead executive and dignitary protection operations for the Office of the CEO, Board Members, NMHC executives, visiting dignitaries, elected officials, high-profile individuals, and other identified persons or events when elevated security risk, threats, workplace violence concerns, or operational needs require protective support.
  • Develop and implement protection plans, security advances, site assessments, movement plans, travel support, event security plans, and communication protocols in partnership with Security Services leadership and internal or external stakeholders.
  • Apply executive protection, dignitary protection, motorcade operations, tactical driving concepts, countersurveillance, defensive tactics, and comparable law enforcement experience or training to support safe movement and appearances of protected persons.
  • Conduct personal security briefings for employees at all levels, from senior executives to frontline staff, based on identified threats, concerning behaviors, workplace violence concerns, domestic violence matters, stalking cases, or other personal safety risks.
  • Respond to employee residences when appropriate to conduct vulnerability assessments, identify security concerns, and recommend improvements to home security and personal safety.

Investigations

  • Conduct high-level, sensitive investigations involving threats, bomb threats, domestic violence, fraud, theft, stalking, workplace violence, assaults, batteries, financial crimes, drug diversion, criminal damage to property, forgery, embezzlement, and other general crimes.
  • Identify, assess, and respond to threats or concerning behaviors involving executives, leaders, staff, patients, visitors, or other members of the NMHC community in coordination with appropriate internal and external partners, applying Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management principles where appropriate.
  • Develop and implement investigative plans, conduct interviews of victims, witnesses, and subjects, and apply investigative best practices to support objective fact-finding, case resolution, and appropriate follow-up.
  • Collect, review, and analyze documentary and electronic evidence, including video management systems and access control information, to support investigative findings.
  • Complete reports of investigation that document evidence, analysis, findings, outcomes, and recommendations for internal-control improvements where applicable.
  • Partner with Hospital Administration, Human Resources, Office of General Counsel, Patient Relations, Risk, Compliance, Security Services leadership, and law enforcement agencies on investigations, threat matters, and related follow-up.
  • Assess security data to identify risks, trends, and crime patterns, and recommend preventative measures, improved tactics, equipment, procedures, and operational improvements.
  • Serve as the liaison between Security Services and the criminal court system for criminal court matters.

Training

  • Develop, coordinate, evaluate, and support Security Services training programs for officers, supervisors, managers, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain the physical conditioning, defensive tactics proficiency, and instructional capability necessary to conduct frequent hands-on training programs for Security Services team members and participants at all skill levels.
  • Apply training and experience in disciplines such as boxing, wrestling, jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, Muay Thai, judo, Hapkido, mixed martial arts, or other acceptable defensive tactics programs to support instruction and officer readiness.
  • Teach prescribed defensive tactics programs used by Security Services officers, including combative concepts, practical application, safety considerations, and participant coaching to support consistent skill development.
  • Develop and deliver training on active shooter/active threat response, de-escalation, personal security, weapons detection, workplace violence prevention, threat recognition, investigative practices, Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management concepts, executive protection concepts, residential vulnerability awareness, and related safety and security topics.
  • Present training content professionally to small groups, large audiences, frontline staff, leaders, and other stakeholders, adapting instruction to the audience, environment, and operational need.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum of 15 years of previous[GD1.1] job-related experience in investigations, law enforcement, executive protection, threat management, or corporate healthcare investigations.
  • Prior sworn law enforcement investigative experience required; retired in good standing from a federal, state, county, or municipal law enforcement agency preferred.
  • Valid FOID card and ability to maintain applicable concealed carry or law enforcement credentials, including CCL, LEOSA, IROCC, FCC, or other credentials required by assigned responsibilities.
  • Minimum of 5 years of continuous combat sports, martial arts, or defensive tactics training in one or more accepted disciplines, including boxing, MMA, wrestling, jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, judo, Hapkido, Kung Fu, or another acceptable discipline.
  • Experience coordinating with local, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, including task forces when appropriate.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data, communicate professionally, maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, prepare investigative reports in a timely manner, and work effectively across teams and functions.
  • Valid driver’s license

  • Masters degree
  • IAHSS basic, advanced, Supervisor and/or CHPA certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
