- Develop competitive submissions and placement strategies; prepare clear underwriting submissions and explain recommendations to brokers and internal stakeholders.
- Work closely with sales and brokers to identify opportunities for account retention and growth.
- Collaborate with actuarial and analytics teams to validate pricing, exposure analysis, and loss trends; incorporate data into underwriting decisions.
- Coordinate with claims and risk control to identify loss drivers and implement risk mitigation strategies for clients.
- Review and negotiate policy wording, endorsements and contract terms to protect company interests and meet client needs.
- Maintain accurate underwriting documentation and adhere to governance, compliance and delegated authority limits.
- Mentor junior underwriters and contribute to team knowledge sharing and process improvements.
- Represent the company at client meetings and industry events as needed, 40% travel.
Qualifications

- 7-10 years of underwriting experience with a focus on public entities and/or educational institutions.
- Professional designations a plus (CPCU, ARM, AIC, or equivalent) or working toward designation.
- Strong technical underwriting skills: exposure assessment, pricing support, contract review and claims liaison.
- Proven ability to manage a book of business, prioritize workflow and meet production goals.
- Strategic agency planning and management experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to present underwriting rationale to brokers and clients.
- Proficiency with Excel and underwriting systems; experience with data analytics tools a plus.
