Sports Staff
NEEDED FOR FALL 2025
Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Program Director, the Sports Staff will instruct and supervise youth, adults and seniors in a variety of programs, camps and events related to sports, recreation, fitness and more. The Sports Staff will help to provide a positive, safe, educational and fun environment for all participants and will positively communicate information on YMCA programs, camps and events.
Essential Functions:
- Coach and instruct participants on how to effectively complete programs, camps or events in accordance with YMCA guidelines.
- Assist with preparation of program, camp or event plans including set-up, tear-down, drills, games, etc.
- At times, directly supervise or oversee programs, camps or events.
- Provide assistance to direct supervisor as needed and fill-in for the direct supervisor when necessary.
- Maintain positive and effective relationships with members, participants, parents and other staff of the YMCA.
- Encourage member and parent involvement where applicable.
- Convey information about YMCA programs and events to the public.
- Participates in staff meetings, trainings, events and reviews as required.
- Organize and puts away program, camp and event equipment. Report damaged equipment to direct supervisor.
- Inform the direct supervisor of any issues that need attention, including safety concerns, member dissatisfaction, etc.
- Uphold all YMCA policies, procedures, standards and code of conduct.
- Fulfill any functions designated by the direct supervisor for the betterment of the programs, camps and events.
Qualifications:
- Working knowledge through either competitive experience or coaching in at least one of the following areas: basketball, volleyball, soccer, football.
- Willingness to learn additional skills.
- Ability to teach the development of skills and proper techniques to others.
- Ability to motivate and effectively communicate with members, parents and participants and to exercise mature judgment and sound decision-making.
- 16 years or older preferred.
- Have a flexible work schedule allowing for evening, night and weekend hours.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.
FLSA Status: Part-Time
