Seasonal ArtifactsCollections Pre-Professional 2026

The Seasonal Artifacts/Collections Pre-Professional position provides support in managing the districts artifact collection and assists in the preparation of exhibits at Mayslake Peabody Estate offering a unique opportunity to connect natural and human history.

What Youll Do

• Assist in the collection maintenance cleaning photography and storing of artifacts.
• Assist in moving the collection of artifacts.
• Enter data in data collection and contact management system.
• Assist in the preparation of exhibits including pulling and installing artifacts.
• Foster a working environment that promotes safe work habits that supports a clean organized and hazard-free environment.

What Youll Need

• Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of hire.
• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in archeology museum management humanities natural history or a similarly related field is preferred.
• Valid Drivers License in good standing.
• Working knowledge of PastPerfect museum software preferred.
• Previous historical artifact research preferred.
• Basic knowledge of photography.
• Experience working with artifacts and installing exhibits preferred.
• Time management skills.
• Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
• Building and maintaining effective relationships.
• Keeping neat and accurate records.
• Experience working with database systems preferred.

Schedule & Pay

• Schedule averages 24 hours per week Monday Friday.
• Expected start date summer 2026 pending construction schedule.
• $17.00 per hour

Work Setting

• Position is based at Mayslake Peabody Mansion Oakbrook IL
• Working primarily indoors at the Mayslake Peabody estate. Will involve frequent use of a ladder and the ability to climb stairs. The site is currently and periodically under construction resulting in contact with dust construction equipment and loud noise. The position will assist in moving the collection of artifacts to make way for construction.
