HPC Infrastructure Platform Lead

Position Overview

We are seeking a HPC Infrastructure Platform Lead to join the Virtual Product Development (VPD) Systems & Platforms team, fully on-site at our Technical Center in Mossville, IL. This role provides end-to-end technical and strategic leadership for enterprise High Performance Compute (HPC) platforms that enable advanced engineering, simulation, analytics, and AI/ML workloads. Combining deep system architecture expertise with business analysis and technology strategy, you will ensure HPC investments are aligned with business priorities, deliver measurable value, and scale with future demand.

This role offers broad exposure managing relationships across industry segments and provides strong opportunities for development of HPC-specific technical expertise, business acumen, and project management skills. You will serve as liaison to the HPC operations team, business unit stakeholders, and IT infrastructure teams.

Key Contributions & Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, design, and lifecycle management of on-premises, hybrid, and cloud-based HPC platforms.
• Define reference architectures for compute (CPU/GPU/accelerators), high-speed interconnects, parallel storage, and workload orchestration.
• Translate complex workload requirements into scalable, resilient, and cost-effective system designs.
• Establish performance benchmarks, capacity models, and scaling strategies; evaluate emerging technologies and guide vendor selection and platform roadmaps.
• Ensure compliance with security, reliability, availability, and enterprise architecture standards.
• Support executive-level decision making for technology investments; participate in architecture governance and enterprise standards bodies.

Team Structure & Work Environment

• You will work within a globally distributed operations team, serving as liaison to the HPC operations team, business unit stakeholders, and IT infrastructure teams. The role includes participation in weekly team standups and facilitation of cross-functional collaboration.
• This is a fully on-site role at our Technical Center in Mossville, IL.

Candidate Requirements

Education & Experience

• 5–7 years of relevant experience required. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field required.

Top 3 Skills

• Linux systems administration and automation.
• HPC workload schedulers such as Slurm, PBS, or LSF.
• Strong analytical skills with experience in capacity planning, cost modeling, and trade-off analysis.

Required Technical Skills

• High-speed networking including InfiniBand and high-performance Ethernet.
• Parallel and distributed storage systems design and management.
• Exposure to cloud and hybrid HPC strategies.
• GPU-accelerated computing and AI/ML workload support.
• Infrastructure as Code and automation tooling such as Ansible or Terraform.

Required Soft Skills

• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills — able to translate complex technical concepts for executive and business audiences.
• Critical thinking and structured problem-solving — able to evaluate trade-offs and guide technology decisions with sound judgment.
